thats like last year, Orlando Sharks bought the Storms old turf and spray painted over it, in camera shots from high up you could see the old Storm logo through the paint
But here is the problem........failed half-baked leagues using marginal players isn't HELPING indoor, it hurts our already damaged history. ONE league with the best players playing in real arenas would help indoor, unfortunately the old MISL guys found that their egos were larger than their pocketbooks.
Well if egos got in the way of those owners continuing to lose $500,000-$2,000,000 a year then score one for egos. The new MISL was the worst of all the leagues.
hell, the PASL ought to just give up trying to have ANY uniformity....they should really go XTREME and let each individual team set up their goals and boards however they like! true homefield advantage...ya...you could have big angles jutting out along the boards and asymetrical goals.....it would be a hoot
Actually that's not a stretch. Although within specifications, Major League Baseball teams have playing fields with a "homefield advantage" in mind. There are some outfield walls that are similar to what you are describing.
I talked to Kevin Milliken who knows just about every "rec center" in the country and he doesn't know of any PASL-Pro teams that have different sized goals. I don't think goal sizes should vary, but like Parker, I never had a problem with teams like Baltimore and Monterrey having shorter fields. In fact, in Baltimore's case, they eliminated a lot of seating behind one goal to elongate the field and now no one sits at that end anymore because you can't see the near goal. Those seats used to always be filled. Who cares if the field is 180'? They played that way for 20 years.
What do you mean? Credit Union Centre is a 11,000 seat arena that will be expanded to 15,000 for the World Junior Hockey Championship. It is by far the largest arena in the PASL. Once the renos are done, it will be close to NHL caliber.
I mean that Stockton, Wenatchee, Monterrey and Colorado (and I forgot Detroit) play in beautiful modern facilities that seat 3,500-17,000. Credit Union Centre must be pretty amazing for you to bag on those other arenas for no apparent reason at all.
All I meant is that the detractors of the league keep calling it a Rec Centre league. It is anything here in Saskatoon with the Accelerators playing in a modern, NHL caliber arena.
Sorry, I took it as you being defensive. I'm glad we have Saskatoon and their arena in the league. I think under the right circumstances it could be a great market. I had my eye on it when I was scouting markets for the NSL. The hockey team does great there.
funny you should mention that because i was thinking of the old Tigers Stadium when i came up with that bit of sarcasm
The thing with the Accelerators is that they need a dedicated owner to be successful. With an owner running the league and the other being seemingly absent, there is little to build on. Not only that, other than hockey winter teams seem to draw flies especially when its -35 with the wind chill out. The CBA's Saskatchewan Hawks found that out first hand when they could barely bring out 1,000 for playoff games. The Blades do well because of two reasons. First, they promote the hell out of the team and the media does the same. Second, people tend to come out when they know certain players will be in the NHL the next year. I think what the Accelerators need to do is find an owner with a bigger wallet, who would be able to entice some of the "name" players to come and play in Saskatoon. If they could say promote the starting MF for the Jamaican national team or whatever, I think more people would come out.
So what is the size of the "official" PASL goal? I can guarantee all teams don't have that size. Christ if the teams in Canada can set up portable goals IN FRONT OF the dasher boards, it is pretty much a free-for-all in the PASL. I agree field length is an arena problem and for indoor there should be minimum and maximum lengts and widths. But goal size should be the same..........at least you guys use the same size ball (and don't get me started on the size 4 debacle of the CISL/WISL).
The goals are 14' x 8' The CMISL is not under our jurisdiction, but it was nice to get them to adopt our playing rules (especially elminitating MPS). The WISL always used a size 5 ball. Only the CISL used a size 4.
Looks like Calgary may have lost their home, at least for the time being... http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Roof+buckles+Calgary+Soccer+Centre/1105655/story.html The bubble houses three of the seven fields, evidently the main building is okay though.
Any word on what team advanced on Sunday, December 21st, to play the San Diego Sockers on Saturday, December 27th, in the Open Cup Tournament? Thanks!
The San Diego Fusion won a three team qualifier and will play the Sockers. The winner of that will play in Stockton.
