Well, maybe I'm glad I'm not going to be able to make it off-post Sunday, given that weather report... because if I could've gotten a pass I'd have been at that game. Can't get a pass during DEMOB, though, so I'll watch it via Internet as usual. But this time I'm actually in TX!
This should be interesting as the worst of the storm is supposed to hit by 5:00 pm and not leave until 10-11. Good thing I live so close now, I'll just wait until they're actually going to start playing before I bother driving up there. Attendance will be horrid (ironic for a sellout). It's going to really suck for whomever put down all that money for that "private corporate event."
Yeah with how much rain is out there I'm not nearly committed enough to get my ass drenched to deal with it. If it magically clears up around kick off i'll be there but other then that.... It's times like this I hate that they got rid of the ticket exchange perks of the season tickets... urgh
I have no problem sitting in the rain. I do have a problem driving an hour to Frisco and them not playing because of lightning. After that Toronto game last season, I decided I'm not doing that again. Link to lightning strike map. http://www.nbcdfw.com/weather/maps/DFW-Lightning-Strikes-122508179.html
I just spent 5 hours driving back from Houston in the rain. I'm sad to say I'm waving the white flag tonight. I just can't. That being said, if the game is significantly delayed due to rain/lightning will the match still be aired on tv? Say at 2am?
Well I lied. We made it to the match and man, I am so glad we did! Thankful the rain held off though. Ps- where were the private event people because they were not in the seats?!?!
Anyone figure out who/what was the private event? There was a Hotels.com interview before the game. Are they doing something with FCD?
Hotels.com is a new sponsor for FCD. FCD are the first sports team they're sponsoring (heard that at the game). I walked over to the north end of the stadium to see who the big corporate event was for. There was nothing special set up. Guess it all got cancelled well before game time. Guess all the people who were supposed to be part of the event didn't show up to the game. Still don't know what company the event was going to be for. Amazing we saw almost no rain on the drive up, during the game, or the drive back. Are there any other guys named Mauro we can acquire? Seitz!!!
We couldn't even get an official sellout from the constant emails about this being a "sellout???" Ridiculous. Like others said, Hotels.com was a big presence during the game and they had people from Santander on the field at halftime and on the video board. I imagine it was one of those two.
FCD has been very coy about what constitutes a "sellout" now that the south end is closed off for construction, but I think it's been somewhere around 16,000.
Yes, the corporate event was the banking institution, Santander. They bought a "significant" number of tickets "at full price" and held a pre-game event in the area north of the stadium. Obviously, the weather killed off most of that event - which did happen - and the resulting attendance. Truth is far more people who are STH failed to show than those attached to the event. It was an official sell out. The new capacity of the stadium is 16,215 with the reduced seating. There were no tickets available for purchase from FCD. The only place to get them would have been a ticket broker or via Flash Seats where STH's can resell theirs. Frankly, the fact the rain just stopped in that 2 hour window of the game is almost worse than if it had rained during the game. While most of the club's problems are of its own making, it also has some really shitty luck when it comes to stuff like this.
Not sure where to put this piece of bad news so I'll put it here. Hedges out 4-6 weeks. http://www.socceramerica.com/articl...sidelined-by-torn-meniscus.html?edition=15461 In other good news, you can look forward to the return of metal detectors (or maybe patdowns!). Because terrorists would try to get publicity by attacking the most popular sport in the US. http://www.socceramerica.com/articl...res-tightened-at-mls-games.html?edition=15461 Anyone see the banner held up by guys in the Beer Garden during corner kicks in the NE corner that said something about "MLS Hypocrisy"? It kind of looked like the MLS crest with a smoking flare. What was that about?
That is in reference to the MLS banning of members of the district ultras for setting off smoke bombs. See pic from Instagram explaining it.
