Wow. That was quick. They hadn't even quit showing the FA Cup replays on FSW. Sunderland v. Millwall was on earlier today. I just want to see us get a few more guys over there.
how about some euro2004 talk? wiz won't be back in town for a month, so it's a good time to watch a huge overseas tournament. I think it's better than world cup except for the fact that USA isn't there. anyone buying the ppv? I'm probably going to do it, then tape all the games and watch them each evening.
So who do you think is gonna win it. Hard to pick against France, surely they won't repeat their World Cup debacle. My outside pick is the Czech Republic, you heard it here first! The England - France match is more or less the same time as the USMNT match next Sunday when many of us will be in Columbus. I am going to be anxiously waiting to hear of England's defeat
There is still a remote chance I might get to go. A branch of my work had a whole block of tickets for group play through to the finals. It was looking like a sure thing a few months ago, but the NBA season is really ratcheting up for my work, and I'm probably going to be stuck in Chicago or KC for the rest of the month. I might not even make it down now for the Wizards half of the doubleheader in Columbus on the 12th. I'm still pretty confident I'll be able to make it down for the US-Grenada half so that will be good. I want to see Group D play. I think that will be some of the best early games in terms of how styles match up. You'll have Germany, the Czechs, Holland, and a upstart Latvian team. Portugal-Spain, England-France, all great matchups in other groups. Group B is probably more talented than D top to bottom with England, France, Croatia, and a pretty good Swiss side. Wouldn't everyone after watching yesterday's US-Honduras match, like to see how our side would hold up in this tournament? We can always dream.
Bastard! I went outside to check the mail in the midst of my post and you'd already made my pick. That whole group will be fun to watch.
I'm really excited about Euro 2004, after hearing all the build up while in Europe, it'll be great to see it actually happen. Like has been said many times, I love the guys who did the draw for Euro, there are so many good regional matchups, like England-France, Portugal-Spain, and Germany-Holland. Like has been said, the Czech's are hard to pick against, I think Germany is going to be a team that will greatly underachieve according to their standards at least. I had watched their 5-1 butt kicking they took from Romania, it looked bad. What happened Mark, you were so up beat about the English in Euro last night.
Yeah they have looked very beatable lately. They're just always that team that seems to get results no matter how they're playing.
I just wish I could watch the games but I think I'm going to be stuck watching matchtrackers and reading the game reports online. Like everyone has said there are going to be some great games, maybe I can find one of those korean video feeds online and watch some of the games that way.
That's bravado on my part, then you read the report of our 1-1 draw with Japan and think about Viera, Zidane, Henry and you wonder how Calamity James, Gary Neville and John Terry are gonna cope with that? I guess if Senegal can, the Three Lions can?
Hey John Terry played really well most of this season with Chelsea, oh I mean Chelski, sure that's different, but Terry has become one of my fav players, and I dispise Chelski.
Anyone have any info on US TV/PPV for EURO 2004? Availability and Cost if PPV, would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
These are the people who hold the PPV rights. Im not sure what kind of availability you have in your area but there are numbers on this link. http://www.setanta.com/content/setanta/website.nsf/page/69c4450aae1aacd180256e98005dd66c_?open&parentpageid=827a2fb10c77444480256e6d004f3769&
That seems strange. I've been seeing tons of commercials for it. In fact, I thought someone in the old thread said they had it....hang on....... https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112196 I don't know if he was joking, but Sam Pierron sounds like he might know something.
Setanta provides the coverage for bars, etc But in your own home you should be able to get it via pay per view ... Hang on let me find a link ...
Euro 2004 will be LIVE on DirecTV, DISH Network, Globecast, and iNDemand PPV $179 for all matches $19.95 for each group match $24.95 for each quarterfinal, semifinal, and final match So for example, you have Time Warner cable, you have iNDemand, you can order the whole tournament for $179 or order just the matches you want. It sure would be great to have a bar that would show these matches live with a small cover. Or if the Wizards would step up and have watch parties in the Pavilion. www.soccertv.com http://www.indemand.com/moviesandevents/viewProductShowtimes.jsp?page_sectionId=2&prodId=16515
That link I provided had the Home use pricing for PPV. Dish and InDemand just repackage Setanta I think. I'm looking real hard at getting both games on the 13th if I don't get to go. It's France-England, and Switzerland-Croatia.
I think I'm going to buy it. my wife blows cash on stupid crap all the time, so I'm getting in on the action. I have some friends who will chip in a little here or there. $180 for tourney or $20 per game. there's at least 10 games I'd want to see, so might as well buy it all. I really thought about it in euro2000 and just bought the final, and it was fantastic. I get a good deal on cable as it is b/c of everett competition, TW was forced to drop us $25 a month. too bad I don't know guys on this board enough to chip in. my picks: france to take it over italy. no fun. but I'm taking sweden to the semis with larsson back and good defense. portugal also in the semis. england to finish 2nd in group and drop a heartbreaker (is there any other way?) to portugal in quarter.
FOX Sports World (US) and FOX Sports en Espanol will air 5 first-round matches live (Denmark vs Italy, Croatia vs France, Italy vs Sweden, Switzerland vs France, Denmark vs Sweden), all 4 quarterfinals and both semifinals via 5-day delay, and the final via 3-day delay. There is also a half package PPV available for $99 which includes the quarters, semis and the final.
That's great to hear that FSW is picking up the games. Who owns the rights for the 06' World Cup? I think its ABC, but I can't remember. You'd think it would be in their interest to run this tournament in some fashion (delayed - maybe a late night highlight show like they do for some of the tennis Grand Slams) to build more fans for 06. If the U.S. is poised to make a run, they could grab some huge numbers come 06. All of my friends, are of the type that they'll make a wizards game every couple years, (unless I ask), but they will all definitely watch the USMNT in the World Cup. Maybe this just means the Big Soccer cataracts have finally set in, but I just can't see that tournament not doing pretty well in the ratings -- especially in the all important (if you're in advertising) 18-45 male demographic. I guess it will have to be promoted pretty well to do any serious damage, and that takes belief from the networks. Nevermind...
