Wow, Ljungberg, Keller, Montero, Hirsig, Escalada, Vitti, and now possibly Palermo? Plus there was a whole group of young US players returning home: Convey, Hall, Jacobsen, Weaver, Videira, Purdy, Pickens, etc. AND, Kljestan, Angel, Boswell, Wynne, Cooper, Lopez, Marshall, Twellman, Cannon, Schelotto, Buddle, etc are still here, with Beckham and Donovan still set for a probable return. Considering how we thought this offseason was going to turn out for the league, it has to be considered a monumental success.
Agreed. Despite what all the doomsayers are saying, this year could be very special. I'm stunned that we haven't heard more about the Palermo situation. Then again, we didn't hear much about GBS until right before he signed. I hope he comes.
I was thinking either 2011 or 2010 could be the year for the league, but the way this offseason has gone so far, 2009 could be that year. Seattle in the league, Beckham back, MLS fans haven't had to lose any of their favorite star players (except for in-league trades with Gomez, De Rosario, Van Den Bergh, etc.), and instead there has been an unexpected influx of talent. Awesomeness. Its up to MLS to do the advertising necessary to truly take advantage of this unlikely situation.
Palermo? Anyone care to fill me in on this one? Is it just the same rumblings we've been hearing the last 6 months or so?
