The Colombians on other BS boards are predicting Fredy's 'downfall' from their national team based on his coming to MLS, and the way JP Angel has been 'ignored.' See also: Fredy Montero, Osvaldo Alonso speak language of soccer (Seattle Times)
If Montero is as good as advertised, expect a nice transfer fee for MLS/Seattle in a couple of years time. By the way, just from the press coverage, Seattle Sounders look to have been totally embraced by the locals. Let's hope this shows up at the gate, as many predict.
We're not gonna show up for the games..... that's too much effort. We just bought the tickets (19,000) because money is so easy to come by these days.
Wow, man. Really? The guy made a positive post and you come with this? Maybe you should read the post and realize he's not bashing your fanbase in anyway. Way to add some quality to the thread (not that I'm helping either).
Wasn't meant to be as harsh as you may have taken it. I would think 19,000 sth would make it obvious we'll support them at he gate. Perhaps I should have used this emoticon. I'll make the change now.
They have great ownership and a smart front office. If every MLS team had the same type of ownership, scouting, and front office that Seattle has, there would be guys like Del Piero, Appiah, and Shevchenko already in the league, as well as more young South American players like Montero and Toja. Seattle has shown faith in USL by making Le Toux their very first signing, young African talent by signing Le Toux, young South American stars with getting Montero, and the willingness to use their DP slot on a proven international player in Ljungberg. All 4 of these areas are imperative to the growth of MLS.
Maybe I am highly mistaken here. But those 6 goals were during practice games at the start of preseason when a lot of players are shaking off there rust. And happened on shortened fields during multiple 8 v 8 games. Am I wrong to not see this as an incredible thing? A shortened field is going to make the game faster, the defenders are still getting back into the swing of things, and it was during multiple games. When he can score 2 or 3 during a regulation MLS game, then I will be very impressed and say things like he "went off." But in training camp it just doesn't mean he is the new greatest MLS striker. In all a good showing, but nothing to get excited about... yet.
I am pretty sure lots of other guys could put in six against a squad that featured Adam West. I love him in Batman and Family Guy but he's ancient!
1. No one said the performance was the second coming. 2. Yes, it IS a reason to get excited. Montero seems to be 'happy' right now and that's important.
Don't get Sounders fans started on our so-called defensive signings. Ugh. We've got a USL veteran(Danny Jackson) and Taylor Graham with Tyson Wahl in the middle. Woo-hoo! Tennis (scores) anyone?

I listened to the NPR piece, and found their sports business guy Stefan Fatsis surprisingly fair to the league.
And considering the amount of tail he got while starring in Batman, normal men would have been hobbling at his age.
he's always fair. it's NPR. no seriously, go back and search for some of his coverage of the Freddy Adu signing and impact and fading. just good, straightforward coverage. he understands sports, domestically and globally, and he's got a great book about Scrabble as well.
