    Three signings this past season:

    Titus Bramble
    From Ipswich -- 5 million
Worth it or not? The jury's still out. He made 13 league appearances and several in Europe. He's a big guy with decent enough speed, but at times looked really lost. Seemed a lot more at home with Ipswich. May end up being the defensive version of Cort: loads of potential that may be realized in a lower division. Grade: C

    Jonathan Woodgate
    From Leeds -- 9 million
Worth it or not? Abso-freakin-lutely. He hasn't been perfect, but even the best defenders are going to get beat occasionally with Toon's style of play. 10 appearances after the last-minute transfer from Leeds. He's someone you can build a back line around for years to come (age: 23) Grade: A

    Darren Ambrose
    From Ipswich -- 1 million
Worth it or not? Who knows? He came on for Solano in the West Brom game for 15 minutes. Obviously somebody thinks he's worth it, but at age 19 in a crowded, talented midfield, it's going to be a bit before we find out anything. Grade: Incomplete

Not quite the class of last year's crop (Bellamy, Elliot, Robert, Jenas and Viana), but Woodgate could turn out to be the best buy since a certain former England captain.
