PGA golfers are definitely ready to get back out there, but there's at least one event (this year's Ryder Cup) that a couple of big names say shouldn't be played without fans. The atmosphere at that event in particular has gotten ridiculous, and there would be no "home field" advantage if they played without fans.

That being said, @sitruc, I think golf is more likely to have fans first since they can be spread out over a much larger area than being confined to a seating bowl. I do agree that a golf gallery can still be a disaster, however.

You're doing better than me with Formula One. My son and I have tickets for the Canadian Grand Prix originally scheduled for mid-June in Montreal. The race is "postponed" so no refund yet. My son is in the same situation with some single game Caps tickets he purchased. Because the season is not yet canceled, he can't get a refund.

Pablo Maurer already poured cold water on that one.

PGA events are fueled by fans. Its not the fans around the 17th and 18th holes. Its the fans flocking to the corporate tents.

PGA events get their money from the big corporations setting up big tents for promotions, food, concession, etc; and fans are cheek to jowls in those tents. Its the fees for these promotional tents that the PGA events need. But if fans who are going there have to respect social distancing or only a given number can be in tents at a time, then the fans won't be going there. And if the fans aren't going there, then neither are the corporations and their tents and their fees.

An article in the Wash Post today pointed out a problem with fans at sporting events (and other large gatherings): bathroom facilities. Not normally the cleanest in the first place, but the ones with the hand blow dryers are a bad idea.

The Bundesligia games with no fans were odd, though it was enjoyable to watch top notch soccer again.

that's going to be the new normal for most of the world until there is a vaccine. Here we are beginning to get testing capacity up and in the places where the new infections are growing the testing centers are empty. I guess that testing needs incentivizing but the states/govs that are actively restricting information aren't going to push for everyone to get tested. It is a really terrible catch-22. The states/feds are pushing this complete alternate reality and even though the science is doing its job the people in the states are getting convinced that nothing is wrong.

It is sad. I wish we could make testing mandatory but there doesn't seem to be the will to get it done. No shared sacrifice or common goals.

I've seen that and view it as a feel good sort of thing, but it can't be even remotely financially viable for the team. Imagine the pressure on those 1000 fans to make a ruckus for the home team. I wonder if Taiwanese baseball is anything like Japanese baseball with respect to singing, chanting, and waving bars. I wonder if you can claim a foul ball or are they considered contaminated and to be disposed of like MLB is proposing. Gotta like your odds of getting one.

It's early days, but perhaps that Federico Higuain signing may pay off in more ways than one.

We can only hope. The soccer IQ of the organization would triple overnight with those two aboard.

MLS plan to return with an undoubtedly cramped schedule, and I assume that means two games a week. That means platooning your squad and especially your attack. Edson Flores in the Black Squad and the Higuains in the Red Squad.

Their influence would have to be from the bench.
Ben would never play 'em both at the same time because . . .
    Well, because . . . because Ben.

Physically over the hill maybe, but mentally, light years ahead of most of the squad. Both Pipa and his brother would make this a better and smarter squad.

Has any squad since Jaime show the ability to learn the mental side of the game?

Rooney had the team playing smarter while he was here. I think DC realizes that Pipa can provide that to the current squad and his brother would be an instant striker upgrade.

Put the kid brother at striker and the older brother at player-coach (morphing into "coach:) and we could have something.

Speaking of strikers, the DCU website has a grainy video of Steve Rammel's hat trick in 1996. Remember Rammel? The story was he had no skills - all he could do was score goals.
