Season starts in one week. The preseason thread will be jettisoned early next week. There will be (we can hope) individual game threads that go up 24 hours before matches. Pictures of cuddly animals somehow loosely related to the opposing team are always welcome. Audi Field needs an animal. Cheers. James
Not so easy. The RFK racoon honored a very real animal seen by many a ticket holder. I've not yet heard a single anecdote about an Audi Field denizen worthy of ascending to the tiltle.
Ground hogs lived in the ground, i.e., the bare ground before the AF construction. The raccoons apparently lived in RFK stadium. I say we wait until we have an animal actually resident at AF.
BTW, Arriola done for the season most likely. D.C. United confirm Paul Arriola may miss entire season with ACL surgery Thx, Jay!
What are the latest rules of Calvinball concerning players who are on IR for the entire season? Does DC get to sign somebody else as a replacement?
DCU has until May 5 transfer deadline to place Arriola on season-ending injury list and use up to $250K (out of team's pocket) on another player.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) February 22, 2020
A wild rumor appears! https://t.co/mbXw6CBXSt— Jason (@jason1551) February 24, 2020 Meh. Abu doesn't help us with CB, RB, or forward depth, so already against this move.
It's like the worst kind of riddle. "What has 13 midfielders, three goalkeepers, and seven other players?"
So, a couple of takeaways from the scrimmage on Saturday. 1. According to the Black and Red United, we came out in a 4-3-3 with Flores playing on the right and Gressel in the middle, and Segura on the left. So something like this: Segura ------------------Kamara------------------Flores ----------------------------Gressel--------------------------- ----------------Moreno---------------Felipe---------------- Mora--------Brilliant---------Birnbaum--------Canouse -----------------------------Hamid----------------------------- Segura assisted on Kamara's first goal. It was a tap in. Asad replaced Flores at halftime (they've both been nursing injuries) Second goal - Gressel plays Segura through who is tripped for a PK. Kamara slots it home. Third goal - Gressel plays a great ball to Segura who scores. So Segura active. Gressel setting plays up from the middle. And not much from the right side which was manned by two guys still trying to get up to speed so should only get better. Hamid also reportedly have several great saves. 2. Almost every major twitter account following the team/game made note of Kevin Paredes as being a special player. Pablo: "Kevin Paredes is something special." Goff: "Man, Paredes is something special: 16 and highly skilled." DCUMatchDay: "Paredes making his presence known. Nice composure in the box..." and "Paredes does well to hold the ball and is fouled in a dangerous area." Add it all up, I'm excited for the season.
Goff is reporting that DC United are likely to play host to Wayne Rooney and Derby County during the FIFA international window in October that takes place between the end of the MLS regular season and the start of the playoffs.
A midweek friendly that I might actually be able to recoup my face value on, thanks to the 1 night the drink on the concourse and watch the game on TV clones return? Yes please!
What's with the sponsor on his jersey? Looks like something my 10 year old would draw up on the bus ride home from school.
I didn't think we were short of defensive midfielders, especially with Canouse able to move from the back line. I would prefer to see an addition to our attacking corps and someone to spell Birnbaum/Brillant in central defense.
We've seen this from Kasper before – signing a player at a position where there's zero need is usually a precursor to a trade (hopefully to bring in a CB who can challenge B & B for a starting spot).
Dude is listed at 5'7" ... I am not even sure he'd challenge B&B at getting his car keys back from them when they mess him after practice.
I think you missed my point. If they're signing this guy, DC ends up with a glut at d-mid... and one of the midfielders can be traded for defensive depth.
