And now for something completely different! I was flipping channels last night just as “This is Anfield” came on. I hadn’t seen it for a couple of years but you know what? I still got chills. Seeing the old Kop in the days I used to be there and knowing I was, at couple of those games. I wasn’t at Wembley for the Cup final they showed but I got goose pimples hearing YNWA sung there. Good bio, the only crit. (yeh, there’s always one) they could have done voice over action once they’d introduced the guys. Handsome as they are, they were still talking heads. I loved it though, even to the Keeg’s funny little celeb jumps…!!! Even a scene for Lanky in it. Bob Paisley holding up what looks to be a ‘gallon’ bottle of “BELLS” camera pans out to reveal about a dozen more bottles in a circle around him…. They cudda spared one..!
I got my wife to watch a bit of it and was telling her about the players and managers from the past. She at least pretended to be interested for most of it. i think I'll get her converted yet!
[Homer] Mmmmm...Bell's! [/Homer] I've seen that commercial in the past. If I wind up going in March I won't make the same mistake I made last time and stop off at the duty free on the way home!
Mine had never seen an English game before. I showed her a clip of Michael Owen and "The Goal" from WC '98. After mopping up the pile of drool from under her mouth, she hasn't missed a game with me yet. Still prefers women's footy if it's on though, as she used to play. *sigh* How did yours not fall for the men in the tight shorts?
My wife found some old pics of mine with me wearing those shorts.... She couldn't breath for a while...gasping for breath as she wiped tears from her eyes...
Oh, she fell for the sight of Owen readily enough! I meant get her converted into being a real supporter and not just another woman enamoured with the Boy Wonder.
Yeh! Really. I used to play about three matches a week with different teams and go to practice nights. Summers, I lived on my bike and road raced every sunday. She thought that "I" had legs, now she says I "had" legs...!!!
It was on again tonight so I watched the first 15 minutes again and I swear I saw myself in the kop. Well maybe not but I remembered being at most of those early games. But what got me most was the shots of the Kop. Heaving and swaying, and at one point you really see the crowd move down the terraces. Nothing can describe what it was like and how much fun it was. Especially during the BIG games when we'd get about 28,000 on those steps. Really amazing. It seems pretty sterile now days.
This is NOT Anfield For those Out-of-Towners amongst you have never set foot in our fair city, kop an eyeload of this http://www.liverpoolpictorial.co.uk/bigpic/index.htm done by a guy i know, from the top of the anglican cathedral in the city centre with a VAST telezoom lense. It'll be like you've lived here for years by the time you're done. Actually, it was a grey day, which really does a city like Liverpool very few favours ...
Great pictures! In the first picture, just to the left of Radio City Tower is a small brown clock tower. What is that? I took an isolated picture of it when I was there but can't remember what it is. Dave
