Wait are we criticizing him for the Haaland goal?

Guy had to cover two players because Cama and Fede were out to lunch on the right. That's a team issue and not an aerial issue on that play.

Correct. No way he could cover 2 players at once. Someone else should have tracked the late run into the box.

If he had a mistake, it was that poor clearance which resulted in a turnover in our area I think to Foden which resulted in danger.

    He was exceptional!

That Haaland goals is nowhere near his mistake. In fact, he was the only one who was covering the danger area, as his teammates were way out of position. It's clear that this kid has something. Such tenacity, fighting spirit, and all-around warrior mentality. The Bernabeu loves those traits. What I also loved seeing was when he defended a dangerous moment and started screaming at his much more experienced teammates that have played and won it all; you either have that characteristic or you simply don't.

I'm not saying he will be our starter for the next 10 years, but if he keeps developing his understanding and reading of the game, we have a proper player in our midst.

Their 2020 analysis is spot on. Asencio ticks all the boxes as CB ability wise and he's showing the mental toughness at the highest level in the most demanding club. So rare for CBs his age.

Ceballos had a similar phase when Arsenal won FA Cup beating the likes of City. His 2nd season there wasn't good. He was good at RM in 2022-23 when he got a chance due to injuries as well.

Hope he has figured this out for good as there's no Kroos/Modric as competition and we need a midfielder of his profile as impactful starter.

There is some talk that Ceballos changed his diet, similar but not quite like Carvajal. Guess diet does wonders for Dani’s

Could be true because Ceballos used to pick up random muscle injuries multiple times per season just like pre gluten free Carva.

To me he's already our best defender, the concentration capacity he has shown for 20 matches is even beyond Carvajal. He's the best at marking, he's the fastest and the best tackler. And he's the only one, except for Fede in the last match, who turns his head around to watch what's happening around him. Rudiger don't, Militao don't, Carvajal don't, Mendy don't. Even Ramos didn't. Only doubling his salary seems dangerous to me, he's worth so much more. The club need to sign a new contract with him asap, and triple his wage. Otherwise he may look around, his clause of 50 million euros is a bargain.

Top ten CB in the world right now? I'm only half being hyperbolic. How many that aren't out injured in the world are actually putting in better games than him against this type of opposition?

I am very impressed by him. It's been a long time since we had seen a Castilla player promoted, but he has been very comfortable with the step up, even better than players who came here with years of CL experience.

Asencio has looked great whether he's been playing alongside Rudiger or Tcho. Has all the tools and mentality as well. In his 15 starts, it's easy to make an argument that he's been our best CB playing at a smiliar level as Rudiger. That's crazy considering he made the straight jump from Castilla in 3rd division to La Liga plus CL games vs Liverpool, City etc.

Haven't had a Castilla player seamlessly adapt to the team in a while. Credit to him.

Very much reminds me of Helguera. Similar build and play style.

Yeah, hopes there's more guys coming through to be honest. We really could do with a bit more local pride in the team. Carvajal and Nacho really carried the flag for quite a while.
