Pele is before my time , and I am not one to go back and watch full matches. I'd only do that if I was writing a book or making $$$ out of it somehow. From highlights, Pele had incredible balance, great acceleration, and was strong (unlike Neymar). He was a very direct player. He could run around you or through you. But didn't keep the ball glued to his feet like Messi or Maradona. Those are unbeatable in that department. Having said that, I think the eras are way too different to compare. Not sure if you've seen it, but there is a great video that shows Pelé basically pulling every move / shots every modern great players have. Some of the resemblance on some of the plays are amazing. If you haven't seen it here it is.
Just now watched the Atalanta-PSG match. I already knew the result but wanted to see it for myself. Really wanted Atalanta to win but PSG deserved it. Now I REALLY want Atletico to win today. A PSG-RB Leipzig semi-final would be the worst thing for the sport given how both clubs have bought their way into this position. Likewise Man City. It's almost to the point that I'll probably be rooting for the winner of Barca-Bayern to lift the trophy. And I can't stand Bayern.
This year might prove to those bozos who say otherwise that yes, money can buy titles. Imagine a PSG x Man City final. Not only state sponsored teams but two teams that UEFA turned a blind eye with FFP.
A part of me would also be cheering for Bayern if they get past Barca. I feel they are the best chance from that half of the bracket to prevent PSG from winning it all. But after the Cinderella stories, I am rooting for City just because Pep annoys the Barca haters. So for me its: 1) Barca 2) Atleti or Lyon 3) City 4) Leipzig 5) Bayern
I want Pep to win, but I hate City as a club. I respect Bayern, but I didn’t like what some of the legends said about Barca so they deserved to get ********ed. But come on if we have a chance, we’re going all through.
Yes he is a Pele fan. But, you can watch the videos and make your own conclusions. It's not like you're reading massaged stats from someone trying to make their point.
It’s been almost a month since Footballia has been down, but the admins said they’ll be back in few days.
Tough choice - Lyon ... top choice for me. don't think they can do it ... but imagine them winning it before PSG !!! Would be fantastic. - Wouldn't like seeing Simeone winning it. Except for those 2 occasions he should have. I guess that's 2nd choice. - Leipzig ... I guess people hate them because they are new and have Red Bull behind them with lots of $$$. Probably breaking regulations too. But at least they aren't doing it by buying the top players. - Bayern ... arrogant management. - City and PSG ... state sponsored teams ... enough said. But I'd take City over PSG for a few reasons related to Barca obviously.
Btw is it a myth or fact that Pele can play any position and was one of the first total footballer along with ADS?
He could play any attacking position with ease. As for deeper midfield positions he could probably do it, but he'd have to change his mindset. Attacking players like him have dribbling and goal in mind. But he had the athleticism and skillset to do it if he wanted to IMO.
Zico was my favorite player growing up. And I only caught the end of his career (post Italy). But I don't think he would have. Many in Brazil think Falcao had a better WC in 82 than Zico. What Maradona did in 86, from a purely individualistic as it translated to result point of view is unsurpassed.
when I watched him as a kid it was more about his passing vision , Finishing and FKs that amazed me . But a few years ago I saw a video of his dribbling in 70s and early 80s and I saw some resemblance to Messi in some of those dribbles .
