Rayo Vallecano finished the season with the fewest defeats (8) in the Segunda. It marks the first time in Segunda history that the club with the fewest defeats failed to finish in the top six positions of the table.
Depor are the second former La Liga champion (2000) to drop into the third tier. Betis (champions in 1935) were the first in 1947.
5 more scheduled, gotta catch Lewa and claim the Golden Boot and the Ballon, oh shit, what's that you say? Actually Messi had a better season that CR7 and Lewa doesn't bring the voters out like the duopoly but I don't see Messi fans screaming about a canceled Ballon.
It wouldn't be surprising if France Football did an about face and awarded the Ballon if... if something were to happen.
What are those people on the LPB forum talking about? They have no chance to win the CL. Anyways if they somehow got past City, half of them would support Juve.
Greenwood looks like a special player. Ties the Man U record for most goals scored by a teenager in a season, with 17. Mason Greenwood joins Manchester United teenage royalty with his 17th strike of the season 🔴👑The names on this list though 🔥 pic.twitter.com/AFGFHH4lVc— SuperSport 🏆 (@SuperSportTV) July 22, 2020 Also: 1285999884038963200 is not a valid tweet id 1286005467651756032 is not a valid tweet id Not his first time. 1285995632784740352 is not a valid tweet id
Leicester really blew their top 4 position. They were MILES ahead of 5th place not too long ago! Now they have to beat Man Utd in their final match to get to the CL again. I guess mathematically they can also get in with a draw coupled with 2 Chelsea losses, but that seems unlikely.
Three of their recent four UCLs - along with Chelsea 2012 - has proven to me that no team can ever be counted out of lifting that trophy. But I agree that a Juve-LPB matchup would definitely expose the Cristiano fans from the legit Plastidistas.
I honestly believe LPB have almost no chance to win it. Sure it's not 0% chance but very close to it.
Seems Atalanta has had it for a while. Don't want to jinx it but if they can get past the next two matches, the Cup will be on the line in some of the upcoming European matches.
PSG playing in their 6th consecutive Coupe de France final, vs St. Etienne. They lost last year to Rennes, on PKs.
Mbappe limps off with an injury after the challenge on him earns the STE player a red card. 32' Sarabia replaces him.
Weird times. Lots of clubs are finishing their seasons now, meanwhile PSG essentially starting theirs today. I know technically its last season's Cup tournament but starting today PSG play non-stop through to the end of May. French Cup today, League Cup next week, then CL. After CL, Ligue 1 starts right away (in fact, scheduled to play their first league game on the same weekend as the CL final). Very convenient that PSG and Lyon meet in the final of the French League Cup. Perfect to warm-up for CL.
"Only" 1-nil against a team with 10 men for most of the match and Mbappe out injured. Anyone else fancy Atalanta?
Helmond Cup update: Milan 1-1 Atalanta (This was Atalanta's sixth title defence after winning the Cup beating Cagliari.) Next: Tuesday 28 July Serie A, 37a Giornata Parma v Atalanta
So what's the deal with the Copa del Rey final? I remember reading at one point that both clubs only wanted to play the final if fans are allowed. But while Real Sociedad have qualified for the Europa League Athletic Bilbao need to win the Copa final to get into Europe next season.
IIRC, once the teams indicated that they wanted to wait until fans could attend, it was also decided at that time that the 7th-place team from La Liga would qualify for EL. So they kinda sacrificed their EL spot. So Granada would enter the EL at the second qualifying round. (Unless I got it totally wrong).
that was back when they had Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Lemar, Benjamin Mendy, Moutinho, Falcao, and Fabinho etc.
Yeah, I'm too lazy to do the digging up, but that squad probably sold for 400M Euros within just 2 years of winning. And Babayako and some others are not pictured. Good analysis: https://footballbh.net/2017/08/15/unexpected-champions-monaco/
That was a fun team to watch. They finished the Ligue 1 season with 12 straight wins, with PSG nipping at their heels most of that time before finally dropping off the radar a few rounds before the end of the season. Meanwhile in Champions League, Monaco beat Man City 6-6 on away goals, coming back from losing the first leg 5-3. Insane! Scored another 6 goals in the next round of CL against Dortmund before finally losing to Juve in the semis. Would've been awesome if Barca could've played Monaco that year in the semis since we still had a fairly exciting team too back then. But unfortunately got smoked by Juve.
Cool map shows all CL participation by country since 1992, source below which lets you blow up the map better, also good commentary kicking off with Malaga v Dortmund memories: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/hzbgxq/champions_league_club_partecipations_19922020oc/
