Is it true that Spurs have given all their employees 20% pay cuts apart from the millionaire players ..
No Liverpool are not doing that American owners got both barrels from Liverpool fans so now they have backtracked
Good for them The backlash from their fans was immense so good for them Now Spurs remain. Levy is still a slime
Current spots are determining that. Utrecht is angry because they were to play the domestic cup final vs Feyenoord, and winning it would have given them a spot in the Europa League third qualifying round. They will appeal to UEFA.
Utrecht has a second argument as well, they only trail Willem II by 3 points and have a game in hand, and a far superior goal differential. So they could've won the cup, or merely won their game in hand match (I think they were to host Ajax), and in either scenario they make Europa in lieu of Willem II. There was also a 2nd division side who were something like 11 points ahead of the pack, who (along with the #2 club) may also sue for promotion. Given that the bottom of Eredivisie is RDK on 15 points, ADO on 19 points, then Fortuna on 26, it makes sense that those clear bottom dwellers drop down, neither looked likely to escape relegation. In the first division Ajax were tied AZ Alkmaar, who'd been gaining on Ajax, and Ajax only led by goal differential. So not declaring a 'winner' by goal differential makes more sense. Nice story on AZ's academy: https://www.skysports.com/football/...hase-is-over-but-is-this-europes-best-academy
A bit hasty? I would've waited and see how things played-out with the pandemic over the next month before cancelling. Schools in the Netherlands are opening next week. The cool summer weather and short travel distances made it seem like a league that could have been completed. So if they had to cancel the season it doesn't leave much hope for other leagues.
I thought I read somewhere that the Dutch government had banned all professional sports activities until September, which likely went into the decision to cancel the rest of the season (?)
I heard that French Ligue 1 is weighing three options in determining the final standings. The Champions League qualifies teams are set but at issue are the teams qualified for Europa League and which teams are relegated. • OPTION 1: Points per match (because not all team have played the same number of matches) • OPTION 2: The current standings • OPTION 3: The standings at the mid-point of the season (after Round 19)
Expanding to 22 clubs means a 42-round season and we're not even sure if a 38-round campaign can be squeezed in for next season. Who plays in the pro/rel playoffs? That's what the options above are trying to determine. 18th place contests the playoffs while 19th and 20th are automatically dropped.
You can play a fair season with 22 teams in only 32 rounds. Split the league in two after 21 rounds, and then everyone plays the other teams in their "pool" a second time. So the top 12 play 11 more rounds to play for title/CL/EL, bottom 10 play 9 more rounds to avoid relegation (4 teams relegated/2 promoted). I would say the playoff involves the 4 teams just above and just below the relegation cut-off (i.e. #16 to #19). The main flaw is that the playoffs delay the start of the new season even longer. So I prefer expanding the league to 22 teams. And nothing is really gained by keeping the league at 20 teams since, as you say, its probably not realistic to play a 38-match season anyway w/o postponing the Euros yet again. IMO, expansion is much better than simply relegating teams that may have only been 1 point from safety when play was halted. Or not promoting a team that may have had a 10 point lead in first place in the second division.
PSG is ligue 1 champion this season. Guess this doesnt change much, they will win anyway. Liga may return in couple of weeks. Hope our players are OK
After first blood, that practically makes every league finish one way or another, either play it over or based on the current standings. Dismissing the season isn't option anymore.
Nah. They'll give all the awards to that Portuguese player who converted all those penalties in 11 consecutive matches in Italy.
