      The books:

The Encyclopedia of American Soccer History (2001), co-authored with Colin Jose and David Litterer. Out of print, starting to get outdated anyway.

The United States Tackles the World Cup (2002, updated edition 2011). Co-authored with Colin Jose. Game-by-game of the U.S. in the World Cup, 1930-2010.

Rangers, Rovers and Spindles (2005). About Fall River and Kearny.

Corner Offices and Corner Kicks (2009). About the Bethlehem Steel team and the NY Cosmos.

None of these are in book stores. Amazon is the way to find them.

Of course not. I know a lot about the history of soccer in the United States, especially pre-2000, and I've written four books on various aspects of that history, but I don't know the game that well from playing standpoint. I've never been a player or a coach.

Never thought Jay DeMerit got enough credit for somersaulting over a crowd of people and not cleating anyone in the face.
