what's the explanation for this rather large surge in Danish talent in the PL right now? It always seems to be ebbs n flows right? Like Sweden and Norway had better talent a decade ago and even more 20 years now.

I'm shocked by the 4-0 win. That's amazing. Hopefully you guys can get that play-off spot. Eriksen is so underrated IMO. Sooner or later he should be leaving Spurs for a Juventus or PSG or a Madrid/Barca.

What league do you think compliments Danish skill/talent the most? Do Danish players/clubs typically prefer going/selling to PL or Bundesliga clubs? Have there been many Danish players of note in La Liga or Serie A. (besides Laudrup)?

As you may have noticed ... it was especially English, German, Italian and Dutch (Ajax) buying Danish players in the past, while Spanish clubs nerve seemed to spend much efford on scouting in Denmark .. but this has changed of lately with especially Celta Vigo looking for players in Denmark :

Spain was badly hurt by the financial crisis and the distribution of TV money that has changed dramatically in favor of the top teams, so they are looking to find cheaper top talent. The trend is that more players go from Denmark to especially to England and the Spanish League, while fewer move to Italy, perhaps because the quality of the Italian Serie A seem to be dropping, also at NT level.

      Ceres,

Are you writing about the Superliga anywhere; especially since the demise of Soccer24/7?

BTW I appreciate your responses to many threads that you have posted in and replies to my questions. Really appreciate it. I'll be honest whenever I see your pic I think of the Dane Jon Dahl Tomasson. Took me a few views to realize it was Viggo.

Are you following the 'Merrier as a Terrier: Danny Williams at Huddersfield' thread in the Yanks Abroad forum ? ... Newly promoted Huddersfield are so far undefeated in the EPL and they have no less than 3 Danish regular starters ... keeper Jonas Lössl, nominated for 'EPL Player of the Month* (please cast your vote) .. Mathias "Zanka" Jørgensen and the young defensive midfielder Philip Billing who just turned 21 ...

Btw ... Jonas Lössl is 3rd keeper for the Danish NT ... Mathias "Zanka" Jørgensen is also not a regular starter for Denmark (was warming the bench against Poland) and Philip Billing has just been picked for the Danish U-21's for the very first time ..

... but generally speaking, Norwegians were mainly named after the farm they came from, while Danes were named -sen in honor of their parents or grand parents.. so the use of -sen is way more common in Denmark.

... but on the other hand you don't need a -sen or -son name to be of Danish or Swedish descent ... Jessica Alba's mother is of Danish ancestry, just as Jamie Lee Curtis is of Danish ancestry on her mothers side (Janet Leigh, who btw also was an actress), while Uma Thurman is the first cousin of the Swedish soccer player Max von Schlebrügge.

      Hello Ceres,

Thanks for all the info you have listed regarding our Fil-Danish players Jerry Lucena and Dennis Cagara.

I do have a favor to ask of you though. Would it be possible for you to contact Jerry Lucena and inquire if he has filed at FIFA for a change of affiliation from Denmark to the Philippines? Acc. to wikipedia he played 2 games for the Denmark U-21 team back in 2001. If this were for FIFA sanctioned games, he needs to file for a one time switch before playing for us in the WC qualifiers. Otherwise, our games will be subject to forfeit. Dennis also needs to do so but I am not sure he has decided yet whether he wants to join the team. It takes a month or two to process this so they need to do this ASAP if they want to play in June for the WC qualifiers. Thanks.
