Igor played a very important role when Gerrard was out...exactly, my point. Check-mate.

LOL, because Igor Biscan played how many games? Fabregas is not a world-class passer? Haha, I think you're the demented one son.

It highlights the problems Gerrard has playing with his back to goal, in his own half, against top level opposition. Not against your Olympiakoses of this world.
      ----------
As it did against Chelsea (Champions of England, Juventus (Champions of Italy)? We didn't concede 1 goal in those 2 ties, so your example is nothing but tripe which doesn't highlight jack.

      ----------
I was saying this at the time. How can you call it revisonism when you clearly have no idea of what my opinion was at the time?
      ----------
I could care less for your opinion back then. I am not talking about revisionism of your position, but revisionism of facts and what have occurred. Namely, Gerrard being a beast in the CM position and becoming world-reknown for it. Whilst you're here arguing that it may actually hinder us facing teams that counter.

I've lost patience with you. You seem to think that playing Alonso in CM alongside Hamman provides them same dynamic as having Gerrard alongside Mascherano.

      Foolish to say the least.
      ----------
No, it doesn't. That's also like saying, having Aquilani next to Masch will give us the same dynamic as Alonso. Clearly, it won't. Clearly, it doesn't matter because Rafa has bought Aquilani to play that role. It's essentially the same role Gerrard was playing a few years back but now there is a better DM next to him. The reason, infamously touted, that Kaka ran rampant was because no one was truly playing the destructive midfielder and that's where Hamann came in. It had nothing to do with keeping possession for when ever Gerrard went up and after the goals, we were on the back foot again.

I am explaining why I believe English players struggle to keep possession. How is this irrelevant?
      ----------
You're generalising, first of all, and second of all it's irrelevant if not opportunistic. Would someone say Mascherano charging back means he doesn't trust the players around him? You are essentially speaking ill of a valuable trait.

      ----------
Got any stats for Lucas? Think you ll find his was around 95% against Villa.
      ----------
Whether it was for one game or not, is irrelevant. Is he a passer of the class of Fabregas, for example? No. So his side-ways and backwards passing (which I must say, is also a bit exaggerated) is not doing the team any favours.

      ----------
      How about...
      ----------
You don't score goals from negative passes. Eventually, someone has to take the ball forward. We have Masch to do plenty of what Lucas does. Having Gerrard won't hinder us - especially as I highlighted that he has a high passing completion percentage despite him having "hollywood balls".

What makes you think this is based on one game? I just cited a prime example, purely cos you don't seem to have seen much of the guy play.

I have known this about Gerrard for years.
      ----------
Prime example? Do go on, let's see some facts rather than your subjective, arbitrary, and certainly minority, position.

      ----------
I wouldnt deem ALL CL games to be of the 'highest level. Au contraire, EPL clubs in recent years have walked through the group stages.
      ----------
Gerrard has won the PFA player of the year and PFA young player of the year. Obviously, though, it hinders us whenever he plays in the middle.

      What a ridiculous comment.
      ----------
Yes, because Luis Garcia, for his "difference" in the CL went on to greater clubs and gained greater adoration for his performances. He didn't, so I am guessing he pulled a Houdini and you and a handful others would rate his importance ahead of Gerrard's.

He scored two very important goals but to suggest he was the drive of the team is lunacy.
