Is that based on the Steven Blush book of the same name? I'm off to dig out my "Another State of Mind" vhs tape to watch while I throw back a few bottles of Private Stock now.
guys who wanted mix cd's from me. I'm going to probably be in a black Kill Your Idols hoodie and jeans. If it gets too cold I might have to wear the flannel shirt. i'll be at the barra tailgate
20 Years of Dischord and Flex Your Head are both great compilation albums for getting an idea of DC music
Oh, while we're on the topic of HC songs and DC United . . . I've always thought 'Red and Black' by 7 Seconds (for obvious reasons) would be a good song for the tailgate playlist. Short, but good. Being an SE newbie, I don't know if it's ever been on. If not, it's something to keep in mind for next season.
Yeah yeah, hardcore, Dischord, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Don Zientara, yeah yeah. But the best albums for getting an idea of DC music are the Good 2 Go soundtrack, Trouble Funk's double album (now on one CD) Live: Straight Up Funk Go-Go Style, and Chuck Brown & the Soul Searchers' Bustin' Loose. As Henry Rollins writes in the liner notes to the CD release of Trouble Funk's Live album, "if this doesn't get you off, there's nothing we can do for you."
Aw, y'all are getting me all teary-eyed, DCxHC and Trouble Funk...and Bad Brains. I was a young 'un in the early 80's in that scene...and am a long-time United fan. Now living in Austin (with it's own kick-ass past...just saw Scratch Acid's first show since 1987, it rocked). Don't forget the women! Slant 6...and the 20 Years of Dischord comp is a must-have. I've remained faithful to United (since my bro is a season-ticket holder too). I only road-trip to Dallas/Houston when DC is playing. Already got tix for the final, they better come! Vamos United! Will y'all post where you'll be tailgating in Dallas? My bro's flying in & we're going up early.
Yeah, it only had a two week run in the theater. It's definitely worth checking out if/when it comes out on dvd. For me personally (as a kid who came of age in early-80s DC), it was pretty cool to re-live some of that time on the big screen. While they couldn't cover everything, the filmmakers really did a good job of capturing the overall feeling of that era. NatsDad: Yep, Steven Blush was involved in the movie, too.
