We played an aggressive, positive game. With some luck, we'd have put a couple away. Poor defending by Parke on the goal (Wynne had to cover Parke's man, leaving Gomez open), but we held them to very few chances. The screw up was the result in the first leg.

man guys, nice fight there tonight. RBNY's best performance I have watched this season.

I hate Eric Wynalda more though after this game.

and wtf is Rob Stone a DC United fan? Did you hear how he yelled like a lil girl when DC Scored.

I see a bright future for you guys...nice travelling supporters section too!

I am just pissed off so much in terms of how the playoffs have gone so far...RSL not in, Crapids kick out FCD, you guys...now all I need to go totally postal is for Chivas to pass on Houston.

I just got back from the game. I can say that watching the metros live is a lot like watching them on TV. Except that the highs are higher and the lows are lower. After we scored I was the one nut in a metros shirt on the whole western side of the stadium spinning around and screaming at all the DC fans...

Then I couldnt hide low enough in my seat tens minutes later.

It was a great game. Too bad we couldn't have held on and won it.

Also, I just have to say, seth stammler played a monster game at his Dmid spot. From where I was sitting he was our best player, attacking stars notwithstanding.

 You mean to tell me that the guy whose nickname is "Near Post Tony" was a better choice to make that save than Conway?

This playoffs is going to be a disaster :

Either Bob Bradley is going to win, thus proving once and for all that there is no stink like Metrostink, or DC wins again (no explanation necessary), or Colorado or New England are going to win their first title.

The replay angles really didn't tell definitively but since no RB players complained about it, Gomez was probably on-side. It's up at MLSNET btw.

I think I'm going to have to root for Cletus - although that's surely going to end badly too.

Funny, the DC fans were saying how much they hate Waldo and that he favored Metro...

Guess it's a matter of perception. I just say that everyone hates Waldo.

Thanks for a good game. I'm glad we won, but you guys played more like you wanted to advance than we did.

Kudos to your traveling fans too. That's the best group i've seen from you (not counting the free trip at the beginning of the season) in a long time.

In freezing the image on the second angle shown, the ball is already on its way with three DC attackers inside the 18 and all NY defenders ahead of it. Impossible to say definitively where Gomez was when the ball left Gross's foot.

After watching it a few times, I do now agree that Boswell wasn't just offside but also that he did indeed interfere with Wynne's play on Gomez.

But Gomez was even further beyond the last defender than Boswell in the earliest glimpse of them, once the camera moves towards the goal from the cross.

We played our hearts out tonight. The future with this new leadership looks great to me. We basically could have pulled this off to advance with a little luck as we totally outplayed DC but do not have a true finisher up top.

To see us go this far and play DC like we did is a great step forward considering we did it with a 16 year old, who should be a junior in high school as our best finisher, no SI's contributing at all as Youri and Schopp were hurt and Canero cannot be found. I see us getting 3 truly good SIs next year that can attack and we will be exciting and great. I do not see Bruce making the same mistakes with SIs that Mo and Alexi did.

To me it looks like the players really want to play for Bruce, not like looked with Mo Ball earlier this season.

    Our future looks bright!

I wanted to echo gnat above. Your team solidly outplayed us for the majority of the match tonight. And your travelling support looked good.

I know it's easy for me to say this given that I'm not a Metrofan; but IMHO, you have a lot more to look forward to next season than any time I've been following this league. If your team plays most of its games next year the way they played tonight, you'll be very, very tough.

    and for those who care,

[result]Bob Bradley is joining Arena on the links - the goat********ers lose on a goal in the 92nd minute by Ching. and it was Regan to blame for both goals. THe requisite whiny Mexican cheap shots followed[/result]

I am devastated but extremely hopeful.

The Old Metro would have laid down and died in this game. Our boys won almost every 50/50 ball in the midfield. Dema played ferociously and Olsen was a non factor. I was also impressed with Stammler's guts in this game. Altidore and Wynne grew up tonight and I have high hopes for the future.

It may sound delusional but this game might have been the last hurrah for DCU. Adu is a disaster and I get the sense that DC has been together for too long. Gomez and Moreno cannot carry this team forever. Red Bulls have some really good young talent, good coaching and a solid owner. Real practice fields, a soccer academy and a world class stadium on the way.

Tonight redeemed an often painful season for me. I did curse MoLexi often tonight for how they really handicapped our team. Bruce really made the most out of a team that did not have a bench. It will an extremely interesting winter.

I have never rooted for another MLS team before. That being said, I will really be supporting New England next week.

This is a pretty good summary of the game. No question you guys outplayed us and probably deserved the win. There was another nice shot of yours that just caught woodwork.

You guys were lucky the big "Brooklyn" banner (I think) made it back. It was pretty touch and go there, as the fans in the mezzannine seats made a grab for it. I'm sure someone on the road trip can fill that in better.

I hope nothing untoward happened to you guys.

Can someone send ESPN camera crews over to England for a couple of weeks to learn how to cover a soccer match?!?!

I'm gonna rep you for this in a little. I am completely distraught by them losing this game. I was in such a fantastic mood even before Jozy scored that goal. Then he scored and I had to rip my shirt off and start screaming. As soon as that game ended...my mood went down the drain.

I am quite hopeful for the future though. I really like Jozy, Wynne, Dunny, Stammler, and Dema on the team. Our staff is getting better. So much better. Bruce, Harkes, Williams, and Des will all be great for the team. I'm really excited about how our team is going to change this offseason.

I'll be rooting for DC to lose next week. I wanna see a good game though. If there's any team I'll be rooting for in the future I think it would either be the Revs or Houston.

Understood, but your team played with a lot of heart and guts today and every fan should be proud of the effort. I know this is not what you want to hear coming from me, a DC fan and it's a long time until next year but keep the chin up and be proud. A much, much better effort than 2004's effort. Arena will get things going in the right direction and you have a new stadium coming. Lots of things to be positive about.

The MetroBulls did us proud! They took it to the scum and should have won.

    Go Revs, and c'mon 2007!

I'd hate for Bruce to decimate this team. Pick up a few or more where we need them but please, let's not start from scratch again.

Why not from scratch? Keep Altidore and Wynne, but buy Reyna, Beckham, Ronaldo, and a world class defender.

Yes, absolutely. The team that was out there tonight is the kind of team I'd enjoy seeing play all the time. A loss, overall, but it's left me hopeful, despite pass experiences. Altidore is very possibly better than Adu, and all that we had hoped Gaven and Magee would be.

tonight red bulls played like they deserved to be in the playoffs. if we had still had peguero we would have creamed this dc team. we just needed a finisher. we had more shots on goal, we controlled the ball better and we just looked like a winning team. it was an extraordinary game and i envy those of you who got to be there. i'm sure it's a long ride home, but this is a game to remember over the next few, cold, lonely months. i am so looking forward to april 2007 and what this team can bring. GO RED BULLS!
