"He is a fantastic keeper and is up there with the best in the Premiership."

I'm glad he is doing fine...Timmy for 2010!!

EVDS' contract runs out in June, right?

If Howard moves his consistency up a notch, SAF will have a very tough decision to make...take a chance on Howard, or take a chance that EVDS isn't suddenly struck old next season, or buy in when other positions need new players brought in as well.

Or rely on their other Premiership loaned keeper in Ben Foster who has IMO been more impressive then Howard this term.

I think SAF will reup VDS for one year and keep Foster as a backup and mix him in on certain came days while letting Howard go to the highest bidder.

I tend to look on that as a temporary blip in an otherwise excellent season

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that verton end up with Howard for good. I don;t want him to go back to Man U. Foster who is outstanding and has shown well for Watford the last two seasons is destined to replace VDS. As soon as Foster locks down the Man U job, he'll become England's #1, in my opinion. Man U also have the guy from West Brom who's a solid back-up. I just don;t want to Tim to gt caught up in the mix again. Man U are stacked in the GK department and with Howard they can make a nice chunk of change of his sale. He looks comfortable at Everton and is taking charge, as opposed to Man U where Rio ran the show, which he doesn't for VDS.

Agree. At the present time, I would have to rate Foster as the better keeper. Howard has been playing well too, but just a little notch below Foster.

Don't know where you're getting this from. I have seen quite a bit of Watford this season and Foster has not impressed me.

You are entirely entitled to your own opinion. My opinion stands.

Foster is a talent, don't get me wrong, but IMO he is yet another Englishman overhyped by the english press.

i only seen Watford play a few times and Foster looked good to me.

i love Timmy but he is making me nervous at times. He needs to make better decisions when to come out and when not to and eliminate mistakes.

Just keeping my fingeres crossed that he will.

And yes i agree, Man U is a big club for Tim. Unless he raises his game to a world class level he better stay where he is loved, apreciated and starts every game.

He's good enough for Utd. Don't fear the big clubs. Howard doesn't.

Strange, I've read relatively little about Foster in the English press. Do you have some examples of this overhyping?

From what I've seen of Foster, he does seem to be the real deal. Of course, it's early days yet. We all know how Howard imploded after his first half season. Additionally, Foster looks very much like Robert Green did in the first few months of his Premiership season with Norwich. Green was outstanding for a while but gradually lost confidence and became more error prone as Norwich's defence kept shipping goals. Given Foster probably has the Premiership's weakest back four in front of him, he'll do well to retain his form/confidence for the whole season.

I've never seen anyone hype him actually. He pretty much flies under the radar.

    --

thus far, Tim has averaged a 6.6, and Foster a 6.7 (though he somehow managed to get a 7 and 8 an in 2 matches they allowed 6 goals in)

The Median for both players (which what is actually more statistically relevant in this type of scale) is a 6.5

The players have played equally well by that standard.

That why I was careful to say "At the present time, I would have to rate Foster as the better keeper. "

it's pretty close, but I do think TH is a slightly better shot stopper, and actually has quite an advantage in just commanding his box at this point.

the advantage Foster has is that he's 4 years younger, won't be playing many internationals, and is English - which DOES have a bit of a positive effect for monetary purposes.

    highly doubtful.

Arsenal, Utd, and Chelsea are shoo-ins.

my bet is still on Liverpool, though they are struggling ATM.

We must all remember that Watford was supposed to be fighting against relegation last season, not for promotion.

Manchester United will resign VDS for a year or two, has Koozey and Foster ready for his replacement, and is also interested in Hearts' Craig Gordon from rumors. I'm a Man U and Tim Howard fan, so I believe him staying at Everton will be a positive for both.

It is possible that TH is a slightly better shot stopper, although Foster is pretty good at that too. I have to disagree about TH's ability to command his box. He still worries me occasionally on crosses. I don't mean to say that Foster is way better than TH, and I thought I had made this point clear in my earlier post.

It just seems to me every time I see him mentioned there is something about him being the "future England #1".

I bet the press is quoting the Watford manager or someone else saying that. Which isn't the press hyping him.
