I like that it talks more about what we want the stadium to look like, as opposed to whether there will be a stadium or not.
Yeah, that's great isn't? I like the bit about playoff tickets in smogland too! Now it's time to go fetch some stadium links! Happily, I already collected some in the "What do you want in a stadium?" thread! QUAKES FOREVER!! GO WOLFF!! GO SSV!! fuaeg! fumls! fuaeg! fuaeg! fuaeg! fuaeg! fuaeg! fuaeg! fuaeg! fuaeg! - Mark
I just hope that the ownership and architects don't try to go so far to "please everyone" that they neglect to use common sense to simply concentrate on building a proper SSS. For example, while having the stands somewhat closer to the lines than other SSS's have might sound good to some, hopefully they don't go overboard with it to the point of making the walls waaaay too close to the lines like they were at Spartan Stadium so as not to have enough safe out-of-bounds space for the players and for the standing on-field adboards that are typically much less painful for the players than concrete walls are. No offense to fandom in general, but not every fan suggestion is necessarily a practical one. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
The "stands close to the field" suggestion was used in the newsletter, which is why I chose that specific example. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
No need to explain, just pullin' your leg. I think most people realize the walls at Spartan were too close, that they made for poor sightlines and were dangerous to the players.
On the other hand, a Red Bull Park-like roof/canopy would be pretty sweet for The [Corporate name] Epicenter at San José. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
If I were you, Goodsie, I wouldn't lose any sleep worrying about that. But, what the hell, I'm a cynic.
I have to send kudos to Colin and others who are planning to attend the semi against Chivas. I have to admit that it never crossed my mind...how far I have fallen!
Just to play devils adovocate, but what is the difference today between SSV and Club Quakes? In the past, SSV goal was to market and find new ownership, build relationship with local governement, and help with locating a new SSS. With essentially all of the eggs in one basket with Wolff, what is the purpose of SSV? Fan condute to the potential new owner/team? Advisor? How is that different than what Club Quakes can provide? Does Club Quakes still exist? In the end, it's probably not very important. However, it just seems to me that one group should be the voice of the fans, not two. If Club Quakes no longer exists, then it's a mute point.
"Copy" this thread with your pictures too (or maybe into What Do You Want In A New Stadium). It will be fun to see the ideas go up - applaud the good, jeer the bad (politely of course). I like pictures.
Never occurred to me either. BECAUSE HOUSTON IS NOT MY TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They just have a bunch of guys who used to play for my team.
Hey, TiQ, clear your PMs! He's right, also, a bunch of guys who used to play for the team I supported. Hey, indoor season is starting in a couple of weeks, for those who want their Troy Dayak fix. Tony
Just a suggestion from a passer by... Some of the stadiums you guys might wanna look at... Easter Road- Hibernian FC BayArena- Bayer Leverkusen Darlington Arena- Darington (practical, cheap, has luxury boxes) Bullen-Arena- Salzburg
The e-mail doesn't say who I'm rooting for. And only 30% of my ten dollar tickets will go to AEG. All beer will be consumed in the parking lot before the match. The Quakes jersey will be worn by all.
SSV has its origins in Club Quake, as you probably know. I resigned as CQ president to focus on the goals and activities of which you speak. SSV resulted. CQ is more of a support the team group while SSV is a trade organization set up to accomplish the goals you describe. You can look at the by laws of each organization if you want to more clearly understand the distinctions. www.soccersiliconvalley.com and www.clubquake.org SSV still has all of the goals you describe and is still pursuing those goals. We are active in our meetings with politicians as we were before. Wolff's option purchase has changed the tenor of those discussions because there is cause for cautious optimism. Most people seem to think that if anyone can get this done, it is Lew Wolff. The road will be long and there will be an active role by SSV as this moves forward, doing all of the things we did to draw positive attention to the issue as we've done in the past.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Tony in Quakeland again. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Thanks for your suggestions. Just wanted to point out that we don't need The [Corporate name] Epicenter at San José to be cheaper and to have less amenities than any other MLS SSS (though at $125 million, Red Bull Park will be in a price-range all its own). GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Though how old would you currently feel having a child old enough to buy you beer? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Thanks for replying to my questions. At this moment, I will look at SSV to be the "voice" of the fans. Once we get a new team (channeling Goodsport optimism), I will look forward to being a Club Quakes member again!
