The sorry saga of Eddie Johnson continues: http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/15727540.htm
the big contract went to his head....and he forgot all about what it took to get him the $$ in the first place....FCD is looking like genius's for getting rid of him when they did.
Reminds me of the poker game called "Pass the Trash" where you send the unwanted but strategic cards from your hand to the guy to the left while you build your own. We obviously sat to the left of FCD last time at the table, I wonder who is sitting to the left of KC next season. We thought we had a hand going but really it was a bait card to improve your own. Looks like it was a good play by FCD at the moment. KC has had its fair number of issues this season but things are obviously on the upside now with coach and owner. It's hard to take Scott Sealy off the field right now and for some reason Josh Wolff is always a coaches favorite to the dismay of a % of fans. EJ is not handling this situation well and a questionable behavior pattern has been building all season.
See, this is why I like rumors. I remember when EJ was a teenager, various rumors floating around these boards about his pouting. Which of course were attacked for being unfair and not passing the NYT school of journalism, what with 3 editors verifying every fact. Yeah well, hell, we don't have a bunch of paid journalists out there trying to uncover these stories. As fans, we gotta grab what scraps of data we can, to piece together the best possible story we can. And the stuff about EJ's teenage pouting, yes that did indeed prove to be pretty valuable information when trying to project his young future. Bradenton is a strong drug to give a 15 year old, to pull him out of his house, tell him he's better than just about everybody else in the country, and treat him like a minor celebrity. I guess that it's necessary and overall good for U.S. youth soccer development, but man it gets inside some kids' heads.
Good article you found there, Rocket. Yeah, CC looks like a genius. Since I am still an MLS newbie, what do you all think will happen to EJ? Of course, it sounds as if his days in KC are numbered, but is there any reason to believe he won't be thought well enough talent-wise to end up with a number of teams knocking on KC's door to get his services? You think FC Toronto wouldn't be interested, at least? I hate these kinds of stories. He's just a kid and while he is an adult and a professional, it does nothing to help the USMT cause. It will be interesting to see how this affects his status with the USMT. He's already shown he can be a contributor, so it would be a shame if he falls off the earth over something as silly as ego. And now, he will be stuck in MLS until he straightens out his attitude; certainly no Euros are going to come calling for a primadonna who can't contribute on a mediocre MLS club.
It's not just his days in KC that are numbered - his days in professional soccer are numbered. Unless he decides to change his attitude - he is headed down the road where he only has two choices: Ryan Leaf or Maurice Clarett.
I think he was pushed into the national team too early. He's the type that you must force to earn everything because any sort of quick success will go to his head. There was a brief period with Dallas when was focused on establishing himself in MLS and he seemed a model player. He then was given call-ups before he was firmly established, scored a bunch of goals against inferior opponents, got the big contract and then had a setback all in a very short period of time.
You keep saying that, but I don't think it's true. The stories of his obstinancy and arrogance were reported all over and were discussed on BS 2 years before he got his contract.
So....ummm...who wants to raise their hand and admit they were wrong when criticizing the FO for basically deciding to go with Ruiz over EJ?? Come on, there were a lot of you out there that slammed this team for trading EJ...stand up and be counted. Good job, Clarke and Co. Recognized the potential pitfalls of EJ's attitude and took a determined, hard working, everything to prove Kenny Cooper instead. GENIUS!!!
And I just want to add, I take no satisfaction in EJ's hard times. Here's to hoping he can turn things around and get back to being the most promising US player in a decade. We need EJ's abilities at the National level, but if he's not playing for his club, it'll be next to impossible to call him up to the Nats.
EJ had his problems here in Dallas, but all-in-all he was a pretty good contributor to the team. Perhaps FC Dallas could work out a trade with KC -- say Abe Thompson for Eddie Johnson. Sell high & buy back low, if you will.
It is true. But it's not the entire story. The injury also really hurt him, he never recovered from that I don't think. It made a kid who previous feel invincible feel vulnerable and sometimes that's all it takes. Combine that with the sense of entitlement and you got trouble. He does have some problems, but still somewhere in there is a good kid. I wish him well and hope he doesn't get lost.
I think the upside potential, at this point, is shaky and the potential for further issues in the lockerroom is high. Not a good move right now. I think you are right, in that it could be a great reclamation project for some team, I'm just not so sure that FCD is that team and Clarke is that coach.
Its hard to call Dallas FO geniuses for getting Cooper if that was the only team he would come back to play for. Curt Johnson told us he would've loved to have picked up Cooper but he wouldn't come. We even had priority on the pick I believe and a lot of us felt screwed over by HSG because of it - especially with Cooper's low cap number. I'm sure someone here can corroborate that. They definitely made the right decision in the Ruiz/EJ pick.
I don't remember many, any?, people being upset that we chose Ruiz over Johnson as the CW was that he would have a big World Cup and be gone by August.
Maybe 4-5-1(Bruce) can be the coach to pull it out of him. He was able to do it for the Nats so maybe he could be the one to do it in MLS as well.
No, there were definetly a number who were upset about the move. The thinking was he would be moved to Europe and we would get a killer allocation for it.
that's what we need, trade someone with a great work ethic and who wants to be here for someone we already had who could care less. by the way, we already have the "EJ" type of player but thhe guy wants to be here and he knows what this means, his name is Dominic Oduro.
I hope EJ gets his shite together but what a great move to dump the louse when we did. Props to Hitch and Clarke
From a USMNT perspective, I'd like to see EJ wind up in LA playing next to Landon. Under Yallop he would either reclaim his form or flame out.
Actually, I think that Europe would be the best thing for him and see no reason why he couldn't make the move. Obviously, Bundesliga and EPL aren't options, but I think he could find work in the Colaship, France, Scotland, etc. Maybe he could join D.J. Countess in Sweden...
Yeah, but we got some production out of him here. KC's paying through the nose for a big bag of nothing but lockerroom trouble at the moment.
