I was just wondering if anyone knew if there were any Americans playing in the Mexican 1st or even lower Div. i know a lot of South Americans go there and later onto Europe. okay thanks!
Yes. They're mentioned in this list (and updates are given in this thread): https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=9601251#post31
So I count 14 on the list...have no idea about the updates and am too lazy to wade through the thread to find them. Last First YOB Latest Overseas Team Country Since Castillo Edgar Eduardo 1986 Santos Laguna Mexico 05 Castillo Noel 1988 Santos Laguna Mexico De la Torre David 1981 Zacatepec Mexico 05 Divsalar Bouche Christopher Fahriborz 1989 Atlas Mexico 06 Guadarrama Sonny 1987 Santos Laguna Mexico 06 Gutierrez Ramirez Gabriel 1982 Tampico Mexico 05/06 Martinez Camarillo Luis Carlos 1987 Boca del Rio Mexico Mejia Rodelo Briant 1987 Nexaca Mexico Ochoa Sammy 1986 Tecos Mexico 05/06 Orozco Fiscal Michael 1986 San Luis Mexico Padilla Cisneros Jesus Andres 1987 Chivas Guadalajara Mexico Torres Mezzell Jose Francisco 1987 Pachuca Mexico 06 Ventura Flores Luis 1990 Real Cavadas Mexico Vidal Amaro Marco Antonio 1986 Tigres UANL Mexico 03 Other than Ochoa, I don't think they're followed too closely on the YA forum. I think the view is primarily to the East rather than towards the South.
Ochoa is the only one of those players on the USMNT radar - he played for our U-20s last year. He is also the only American who has gotten any minutes in the Mexican first division this season. David De La Torre, who I believe is a regular starter in the second division, is the brother of Atlanta Silverbacks (and former Colorado Rapids) defender Antonio De La Torre. Edit: Edgar Castillo has also gotten a few minutes this season.
Friend of mine from SoCal has a friend who scouts for Tecos, sends about 4 kids per year from L.A. area down to Tecos for a look. People don't make a fuss about it as with the Euro academies, but quietly, there are opportunities arising in MFL. FYI, his kid is not Hispanic and they're talking about bringing him down too.
Incorrect, Sonny Guedmarra has had more looks with the US National team than anyone on this list. He has featured for the U-17s I believe, and has appeared for the U-20's this year I believe. I will clarify and post it... I know this because his brother at Campbell is a friend of mine and I have played together with both of them.
Correction...it was the U-18's and U-20's... Hopefully he will be getting some looks for the U-20 WC from the last time we talked......
Samuel Ochoa, has been waiting on the bench for most of the championship, so far he's been unlucky and hasn't managed to score: http://www.femexfut.org.mx/portal/indexcontenido.php?Obj=100032&IdJug=45231 Edgar Castillo, he just played this week end 45 minutes for Santos, the most participation he has ever got on Mexican first division: http://www.femexfut.org.mx/portal/indexcontenido.php?Obj=100032&IdJug=34502 Michael Orozco of Club San Luis has played in first division too: http://www.femexfut.org.mx/portal/indexcontenido.php?Obj=100032&IdJug=47609 Exactly 2 minutes, he got a red card in his first intervention; guess he was pretty excited. Some information about other players this year: Jesus Padilla, made his first division debut for Chivas this season. He's a regular of the Mexican U-20, plays mostly for Tapatio (Chivas second tier filial) in a variety of positions, from striker to RB. Jose Francisco Torres Mezzel of Club Pachuca, has yet to start a match for his first division team, but still he was included in the 25 men roster of his club for Copa Sudamericana. Luis Ventura from Real Cavadas, was called to the Mexican U-17 NT camp a couple moths a go.
The call of Sonny Guadarrama took me by surprise because he hasn't played that much in Mexico, his call has probably more to do with the fact that he has participated with youth USMNT. The list on the Mexican Federation site: http://www.femexfut.org.mx/portal/indexcontenido.php?Obj=100001&IDNoticia=10547
Well, Sammy Ochoa it's been on fire for the last couple weeks, scoring his first two goals of the season, the only problem is that he didn't do it on First division, but in the second tier circuit. Anyway is good, because that's the only way he has to go back to the first team. Here's his card, the games with UAG are on Primera and the games with Tecos are on the second tier circuit: http://www.femexfut.org.mx/portal/indexcontenido.php?Obj=100032&IdJug=45231 BTW, I'm watching the Santos v. Pachuca, on the bench of Santos you can find Edgar Castillo and Sonny Guadarrama. The commentators said that Sonny could make his first division debut pretty soon since his coach likes his game, his coach Daniel Guzman is the same man that took Mexican football prodigy Andres Guardado from the third tier circuit to first division. EDIT: Sonny Guadarrama made his first division debut today while playing for Santos v. Pachuca. He helped his team to tie the game, has nice moves showed the ability to read the game, and overall it was a good debut for him that left his coach pleased.
