That's quite true, but he wasn't given a free role for most of his first 2 seasons and maybe 30+ appearances are subs.

Ronaldo hasn't scored a hat-trick for us yet, i think he is due one.. :D

he has been close a couple of times with doubles (against Portsmouth away last year he hit the bar when he had 2)

good stuff from him especially on a run where he took on on 3 or 4 defenders and laid a ball to shaha which he fluffed. It'll end up on one of those video compilations sites. :)

Ronaldo = king of making the ball move in the air. :D

seriously, he must of mastered how to do it very early.

he goes for power, that's why it sometimes hits row z, but when it works it's great.

is it more or does Ronaldo seem slow and sluggish out there like a old man? he doesn't seem to be able to beat players so easierly like he use to.. is this because players have learnt how to deal with the step-over or has he lost pace.. or maybe hes just not fully fit yet?

it really worries me and something i've seen for abit.. i think this deserves a topic to all itself as it could be a major issue over the season.

Ronaldo - The Decline Of A Young Star?

is it more or does Ronaldo seem slow and sluggish (maybe even sloppy at times) out there like a old man? he doesn't seem to be able to beat players so easierly like he use to.. is this because players have learnt how to deal with the step-over or has he lost pace/excelleration.. or maybe hes just not fully fit yet? i know he was against a quick back 4 vs Arsenal but Ronaldo at 18/19 nobody could match him for pace.

it really worries me and something i've seen for abit.. i think this deserves a topic to all itself as it could be a major issue over the season.

anyone have any thoughts on this?

Re: Ronaldo - The Decline Of A Young Star?

Decline? No. But he did bulk up so that might have smthing to do with it.

I have noticed this as well. He doesn't seem as fast as last season with regards to the same time period last season. I still think his moves are as effective.

Although I know exactly what you are talking about, he seems slower. Yet he still gets by his man, by luring him and then exploading. His quickness still looks like it's there, just his all out speed seems questionable.

It could be attributed to the upper body weight that he might have put on. I experience something of the sort. For my basketball team, at the begging of trainning camp(September) I was 170 lbs. I began to work out and at November I weighted in at 183 lbs. I was definitly stronger but I felt slower and less quick. I stopped trying to increase my weight, and worked on being consistent in the weight room. I went down to 175 lbs and just held that weight and I felt like I regained my speed and quickness. Somewhat of a "perfect" balance for me.

Perhaps the same thing has happened with Ronaldo, because it is evident that he has put on some upper body strength, and with that maybe lost some speed.

I dont know, he hasnt really looked like it. Unless ofcourse you are using the Arsenal game as an example. That wouldnt be right thoguh because Ronaldo went up against some of the fastest defenders he will ever come up against. Maybe thats why he looked slow.

Yeah, that back 4 was not only fast but strong as well. He also had a pretty good game, then he commited that turnover...

He hasnt declined. He's been among the top performers of the club since the season started. Looking better than ever, even though he's had some bad moments.

F*** Christiano. He's the reason Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuud isn't here anymore. I sold my CR7 shirt on ebay b/c I was tired of him and that's b/c of his United play; not b/c of the Rooney baiting in the WC (which I thought was brilliant strategy)... He's a terrible teammate for this team and I'd happily take any of 50 other midfielders for him right now. Give me Ruud over Christiano any day.

Besides, we all know you can't win anything with kids...

I for one am glad Ruud is not here anymore just for the fact that he was an old dead horse who was lacking pace in a very fast league. Look at Hypia....slow as ever now and getting unfaired on a consistent basis and I am sure you cant name 15 players better than Ronaldo now in his position

Uh, definitely not I would think. Absolutely no reason why his pace would have slowed out of nowhere -- he didn't even have a serious injury.

    He's fine.

    I can't believe there's a thread on this.

CRon on the downside ? Rubbish. But there's one thing that disturbs me about his game: he shoots too much and from anywhere and it rarely works. Pedala, pedala and boom from 35 m nowhere near the gk. I think he is the best pure winger in the world as we speak, but there's still LOTS of room for him to improve, especially on his end product.
N.B. I did say «pure winger»... de facto excluding all the Ronaldinhos, Kakas, Gerrards and Ballacks of this world.

Pure Winger? Cronaldo is far far from a pure winger......not even close. A pure winger runs the lines, and rarely floats or cuts inside...

    see Giggs,

PS....decline? rubbish. If anything he has merely become a touch more deliberate in his approach i think. To top it off, he has rarely faced a back line with the kind of overall pace that arsenal presently posses, thus he merely looked a tad slower.

Mr. Diable Rouge, I think you need to refer back to the P.L.R.F.B (Portuguese Language Ronaldo Fanboy Book).

Chapter 23: Rule # 29: Stepovers are known as Pedaladas.

Not Pedala, Pedalo, pedakaka....Pedaladas my young apprentice.
