I don't believe that's true -- they have often showed the replay of plays on which the ref calls a penalty.

I caught one frisbee one game and threw it back ... everyone around me laughed - they know I'm there for the game.

I think it's best to rephrase. The referee is not allowed to make a call or change a call based on replay.

Has anyone noticed that the west side of the stadium is pretty lame?
I was on the west side on Saturday and we were doing everything we could to get people into it.
Seriously, that stadium should have been twice as loud as it was for the last 20 mins.
Oh well, atleast Sala A.K.A. "Caeser Salad" got his from my group.

I think Sala was a little more concerned by what he got from Atiba

yeah the west side is lame. I would hypothesize that being the more expensive season tickets, in general richer people got them for whom it might not be a big deal to go to a game because they might also have things like lower bowl season Jazz tickets and go to all sorts of events in town all the time so they just want to watch and don't really get that excited about going to an event any more. I mean, sure you can get excited even if you've been to a million events or you're rich or whatever. And you might not have a lot of money and you could still go to a lot of events, but generally that's my take just because I sometimes sit on the west and I can sort of tell that's the social difference over there. For example I know of a few people who have season tickets on the west who are loaded rich people, and they either don't use their tickets or they go and don't really cheer that much even though they do like to follow the team. Then I know a few people on the east who are not so rich, and they're school teachers. They never miss a game, get really excited every chance to go, cheer a lot, are soccer fanatics etc. Nothing against richer people or poorer people, just a little hypothesis from someone with a nose for sociology.

I think they might also be the corporate sponsor seats more often - if you're going to give tickets out... you want them to be nice.

Me and my friends have some tickets on the West side and I think a lot of the people get sick of us because are so vocal... I'd move to the East side but the sun burning a hole in my retina while it gives me skin cancer is not as bad as the fact that I just get really hot.

It's the same at all sporting events though - there really is a difference between the less/more expensive seats. The NBA is a slight exception because even for the stupid fan it's easy to know when to get excited and it happens often.

My wife and I set on the west side for the first time this last saturday after scoring some free tickets. It was definitley more quiet that other places we've sat. I am not ever very vocal about anything (I'm not rich - just grumpy), but my wife yelled "Dive, Dive, Dive" or "Pescadito" every time that Ruiz touched the ball and was her normal, energetic, boisterous self. She defniitely drew a few looks. I think the issue is that most Americans view soccer as a form enterntainment - not a passion. Something that is definitely changing here thanks to RSL. One thing the people around us were good at was booing the ref. I think the opposing players have it easier at Rice-Eccles than the refs do.

Until you hear RCB chant that (opposing player) has herpes. Love that chant.

  10. West side did a decent job harrassing the linesman. They had to call security down each aisle just to keep him safe. Must be doing something besides sitting on their hands. One guy from the West side was ejected for throwing stuff at the ref. Remember... It's OK to harrass, not OK to bombard. Just a friendly reminder from your friend Poqui Moqui...!
