It is what it promises, an adrenaline rush fueled unapologetic action flick with lots of dark humor. Like Carlos Mencia on crack, this movie is insensitive to all groups and belts out plenty of guilty pleasure. It has plenty of spruced up angles, film stock trickery, and a noteworthy soundtrack that partners with the action perfectly. It reminds me stylistically of Go meets Transporter on meth. Besides, 60% of the haters on Rottentomatoes liked it. Much like myself, you may too.

Actually, the comedy was intentional. Truffaut was asked about it in an interview and he said he shot it that way because he couldn't bring himself to treat guns seriously. Not saying it makes his decision right, but it was intentional.

That's very unusual. Most people start out loving it and then begin to appreciate it less as they move on to other Truffaut films. Maybe you were less impressed because you've already seen a lot of other truffaut films.

Jules and Jim made it safe to flaunt narrative conventions and throw caution to the wind. It influenced other filmmakers, but more importantly, it influenced the audience to accept these kinds of movies as it was an international hit. Others may have done it first, but Truffaut made it mainstream. As Godard said when Truffaut died early of a brain tumor, "We've lost our protection."

Well it's really not fair to compare any movie to Trouble in Paradise. Not coincidentally, Lubitsch was Truffaut's favorite director after Renoir, Welles, and Hitchcock.
