The Chris McCarty Band http://www.chrismccarty.com/ Black-eyed Blonde is pretty good too. Can't seem to find a website.
Elaine, I don't know where Shalimar is, but have you ever heard of Jacksonville's own Mofro? They're REALLY good! Chicago has a cool band with the best name ever in the form of The Dyslexic Apaches. Good stuff. Vive le AFC! OPArsenal
Can't think of a favorite New York band but my favorite Chapel Hill, NC artist (band) is Ben Folds (Five). Followed closely by Sankofa.
Wretch like Me Drag The River Leghorn ALL Bill the Welder pretty much all of the bands in the Fort Collins, CO who are regulars at the Starlight. http://www.thestarlight.com/
The Juliana Theory. The Clarks Local hardcore legends Anti-Flag And of course Pittsburgh Legend (and ace realtor) Donny Iris.
Yeah, because all of the bands that talk ************ about 9-11 and say we deserved it at thier shows are cool, aren't they Dr. Wanker?
Ummm. They never said we "deserved it" at any of the shows I was at since Sept. 11, 2001. They do, however, question the intelligence of US foreign policy and state rather strongly that there just might be a reason why the US government is hated in certain parts of the world. Which is fair game in a democracy, you know.
A while back there was a local band back home that played all over Chicago and were actually pretty good. The guys played from late high school to early college, once they graduated the band died, but the name will live on forever. Pomplemoose. I am a bit biased as they are all friends of mine.
I remember that name (seeing it in New CIty and the Reader, etc.), though I never saw the band. However, they gave my favorite Chicago band name a run for its money. Still, Pomplemoose comes in second to The Dyslexic Apaches, IMO.
I'm in South Florida and I can say that Mofro is THE ***************!!!!! I've seen them six times since last July and they get better and better everytime. The crowds are starting to get a little bigger too. But as far as local goes... www.joeldasilva.com A wicked guitar player who plays in a band called Hep Cat Boo Daddies. Lame name, great rockin band, if not terribly original. www.jerrodsdoor.com Tribal, psychadelic music. Makes you feel high as the moon without any drugs. A little out there.
Fugazi's rocked the DC area for many years and Ian and the boys are still into it. But my new favorite local band is Bill Kirchen and Too Much Fun. Bill was an original member of Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen. He is by far the best guitar player in the DC area since Danny Gatton's death almost four years ago. Too Much Fun's version of Hot Rod Lincoln brings down the house everytime I see them. In the space of one song, Bill covers about thirty different guitar players and takes it to a new level. The highlight was last summer when they opened for Huey Lewis and the News at Wolf Trap. 15,000 people went nuts. Huey was lucky most of them stuck around to catch his gig.....
please...for the love of all things good, please PLEASE NEVER call anti-flag hardcore, EVER again. please, think of the children...
I once received an email about Donny Iris being the Second Coming. He's close to musical sainthood locally. Also, let's not forget Joe Gruschecky and the House Rockers!
I was just talking about them last week, although they haven't been around in a long, long time. Right now, my favorite local bands in Chicago are probably EXO (www.exonoise.com), Drive and The E-Mics. And a couple others I'm suddenly forgetting. There's a band called The Assassins that are getting a ton of attention, and they're good, but not great. Oh, and we rocked the Double Door pretty hard on Friday. And, as if that weren't a shameless enough plug, I have a weekly e-mail newsletter called list.in.to.chicago that handicaps the Chicago scene. Sort of a "Coz reads Section 3 of the Reader so you don't have to" thing. Later, COZ
Not exactly local, but a small band/artist...Brendan Benson (and his band The Wellfed Boys) out of Detroit. Two fantastic albums, yet not known at all, from what I can tell. Saw him "headlining" in DC with a crowd of about 75 people - he recently opened for Ben Kweller. If you like rock/pop, check him out, especially his new album, Lapalco.
My Boys! I'm down in Miami...so I gotta go with my boys in Forever Lost. I've known Marc (bass) since sopmore year and he and his band are defitnatly a great live show. Here's the site: www.foreverlostmusic.com Check it out
