I apologize if this was addressed somewhere recently, but with the new deals with FSC and ESPN, is anyone doing a one-hour highlights show like they have for the EPL and other leagues? It would be perfect for me. With small kids, I have little time and little patience to watch an MLS game that does not involve RSL, so as a result I find myself quite ignorant of what is going on with the rest of the league. I look at the standings and glance through the game reports, but having a highlights show would really help show whats' going on in the rest of the league, who's doing the scoring, etc. (Actually, it would be kinda useful to have one for the Mexican league, too, especially if it were done in English.)
THere is American soccer on GolTV if you can get past the hideous production values. It is not MLS centric but also adds USL and PDL matches with a update of Yank's Abroad. Good show, just needs better production and direction. james
Unfortunately, no GolTV for me. Didn't FSC have some show like this a while back? Maybe it just didn't get the ratings.
While the MLSnet Sighs and Sounds-Video Highlights don't count as a highlight show it may be even better-You can see all the highlights (when televised) and it generally gives you a better feel for the eb and flow of the game.
I really liked the NFL Films quality review shows MLS put together at the end of last season. I thought they were planning to continue those this season, but so far nothing.
You don't have time to watch highlights on MLSnet or at least browse through the scores...but you'd have time for a 30 minute or 1 hour highlight show each week? Sure.
Well, some of things that are mentioned in the press releases and whatnot about the new TV deal makes me believe that there will be some ancilliary programming of some sort. ESPN will have the right to incorporate MLS footage into any of their programming anywhere in the world. So why would ESPN reserve that right for themselves if they weren't planning on some kind of anciliary programming? I think a Thurday Night MLS Round-Up show of some sort would be ideal. Something immediately following the game --- or maybe something interspersed with Sportcenter on Thursday nights, if they don't want to do a whole show, with three or four - three minute segments during Sportscenter. I'd prefer our own show though.
as mentioned above 'American Soccer' 1 hour, on Gol TV is pretty good and has Ray Hudson as a commentator (on Dish) B+ "MSG Soccer Report" half hour on MSG and NY Spt Network have a RedBull focus but have the best report team and production with a league update and Overview (available on the Dish sports package) A 'FSW Report' Fox Sport World Report on Fox Soccer Channel - 1 hour, {Wed-MLS Pulse Segment, Sat, Sun and Mon after games} 85% soccer news, nice MLS Short Blurb, covers the bases and nice Intl. Champ. league coverage good broadcasters B Yes a ESPN 2 1/2 hour would rock or even a 1/2 hour or hour return to Fox would be great (I even miss the old show, in spite of some shortcomings) at least you have a few options
