I just added a note about the Church of Foos, which I hope earns me brownie points with the Foos upstairs.

I also changed "amungst" to "amongst."

Need to add to the culture section:

    1) Divide between American Soccer vs "Eurosnobs"--the ongoing debate.

    2) Pro/Rel in MLS -- a discussion that never fails to be started regarding the merits or feasibility of pro/rel system in MSL and USL.

The Mexican'ts keep messing with Donovan's Wiki entry. It's normal now, but they had all types of foul crap on it before.

I see my perfectly harmless Church of Foos entry has been taken down.

    From Wiki:

"The site evolved in two directions, becoming two distinct sites, MetroFan.com and SoccerBoards.com (which evolved into the current BigSoccer.com). While MetroFan continued to focus on the local MLS squad, SoccerBoards invited other MLS fan clubs to join an interactive forum where they could share news, gossip, opinions, etc. about their local MLS side, the league, and US Soccer, as well other soccer teams and leagues around the world."

    *****

I've always wondered why the MetroStar fans broke off. Was it really an evolution, as the Wiki entry states? I remember when I first starting coming around here in 2002 and the MetroStars forum was by far the most active of all the MLS forums. But there was great bitterness from many of the posters. It was the one place where you were almost certain to be attacked if you were thought of as an outsider. There seemed to always be talk of screwing Big Soccer and going off to do their own thing, where they could be left alone and not bother with the rest of us. I didn't find this attitude within any of the other MLS club forums

I have the impression it was something of an insurgent group with an anti-Big Soccer mentality that walked out and created MetroFanatic.

I don't think it was originally an anti-BigSoccer mentality - though that developed. But as I saw it the MetroStars board had a big internal explosion following some long internal grumbling. It was a bitter, bitter breakup.

Much more than meets the eye. For me, I have no interest in being apart of something that is so regimented and censored. For others there was an issue of $$$ that they got screwed out of, and others took issue with the boards going from grassroots to something much bigger.

Much of this was before my time and I am regurging what others have stated to me, but my opinion as to why I don't post here is obviously something I know much about.

The questions you should ask about BigSoccer...

Why was the deal between FSC/FSW canned?

Why is there a rift between the single individual that runs/owns BogSoccer and Metrofanatic.com

Why is there also an issue between those that house Metrofanatic.com (can't state the URL it's censored here) and Bigsoccer?

Why did someone choose to create a terms of service that actually create a Disney-like culture that is so adverse from the passion that most people want to express about the teams they support and their opinions about other facets of life.

Those of you that get to read this, pay attention, I'll get censored pretty quickly. Again, this isn't a community as much as a sharing of like minded ideals and a rapid deletion of those that ask questions and demand answers.

"Disney-like" culture? Are you kidding? Compared to another message board I frequent this one is utter, and welcome, chaos.

    Historical question:
The Great Crash - During World Cup 2002 BigSoccer had a major server crash. This caused all of the pre-existing posts to be lost forever. Many great threads and posts were lost in The Great Crash.

If i'm thinking about the same crash, where a lot of us went over to Xtratime, I think that happened in late January to early February, not during the WC.

Agreed. Some other forums lock topics when a question has been answered, or move topics without contacting the person as to why it's been moved. Or they don't merge topics, causing a hell of a grand mess. (Why have 1 thread with 200 posts when you can have 50 threads with 4 posts each?) Or, they don't create more forums as needed, leaving you with 5 pages of topics posted to within the last 48 hours.

BS moderators leave redirects and are generally a lot more communicative with the users as to why something has been done than compared to moderators in other forums.

I just added a bit about the Eurosnob concept. I think I've pretty much covered it, but feel free to change it if you can make it better.

Christ! Some people "contributing" to the Big Soccer Wiki entry are severly in need of an editor. It didn't read that poorly in the past. But that's the least of the problems.

What's even worse are some of the childish feelings being expressed in the Culture section. Are some of you ever going to grow out of the high school level of smart ass put-down you engage in? This is not part of a so-called "unique culture" around here. It's simply a level of infantilism some of you have yet to grow beyond. If you dislike this site or its moderators, get the hell off of it, but don't publically embarrass it.

Is this really one of the most common BSSM discussion topics (per the wikipedia entry)?

    "paedophilia and masturbation"

Maybe it is - I am unfamiliar with the area - but it seems oddly placed.

    The joys of wikireality, perhaps?

The Great Crash of 2002 took place in July or August of '02. The WC was already over.

That crash took with it probably the single most incredible thread in the history of bigsoccer (purported death of Kevin Payne notwithstanding) - an NSR thread (pre-Politics spinoff) started on 9-11-2001 filled with news and opinions and passion and connections.

I wasn't posting in Politics yet but BSSM kept me sane that day. I mourned that particular BSSM more than any of the others that were lost.

Man, there sooo much good stuff that got lost.

I just looked at the wikipedia entry and it says the crash was during the WC. It was not.

I don't think there was a Politics board at the time, just the FFA board that contained a pretty good amount of political discussion. I believe it was shortly after 9/11 that the amount of political discussion increased exponentially and the Politics board was created. It could've been earlier than that, though.

Hey Huss, just noticed this wiki thread. I didn't really know or even care about the FOX thing but MLS provides you with info and/or stuff...whatever.

At the moment and in the past year I'm not all too happy with MLS.

I have not spent a single dime (that I'm aware of) on anything MLS since my Quakes were ripped from my life. I don't plan to spend a single dime on MLS until my Quakes are returned.

    Just wondering.

    I want my team back.

Does any of my 30 or whatever bucks go to Mr. Garbage, et. al.?

How do you add things on wiki without it being erased. I editing something and a day later it was gone and I got a message stating that I need a "reliable source". How do I site a reliable source?
