I just voted for the *only* one we're likely to see wearing the maple leaf soon.

Interesting, aren't we missing some choices. To be honest, I'd be inclined to give it to Pat as well for his consistant club career, but his NT experiences definately have not matched his club career.

To be fair, if you look back, Pat was put in some not so good situations. Last minute callups, flying around the world at the last minute, didn't help. Also he was one of the scapegoats for the WCQ but aside from that one bobble that led to a goal he was reasonably steady and in two games spectacular.

I think the team quit on him a little bit, and may have lost confidence in him. He gets blamed for that bobbled goal that everyone thinks killed the team but I watched that tape again and I think CR? scored again twenty minutes after, and Canada played ok in the interim, so that goal definately wasn't a huge momentum shift.

But it looks like Lars has turned the corner and is building on his promise, so lets hope we see a bright future for him.

Also hope Begovic isn't going to be in the system of a 3rd tier Belgian team. Could be an interesting year for Wagenaar.

Why is Fernandes in the list?

I voted for Hirsch but we're missing some choices here (Kenny and Sutton). It would've been between Sutton and Lars in my mind but I prefer to give my vote to Hirschfeld because he's playing in a better league.

I think the 3 canadidates you've listed are playing at a pretty similar level but I feel like Onstad is too old and I've never seen Fernandes play.

MOACA: Wagenaar will be the back up at ADO since they've signed Stefan Postma (I think it's better for him to start on the bench and learn some stuff about being a pro, he's still young). I feel the same for Begovic, it wasn't good for him to be rush in the Belgian League but at least from what we've seen in the Brazil serie he still look confident (except for some communications mistakes).

From what I've seen from those 2 youngs keeper, they have a lot more talent than all of our current MNT keepers. They'll need time but I think we'll be in pretty good shape in front of goal in 4-5 years.

After the previous WCQ games, how can Onstad's name still be here, he was utterly useless and was in part the reason we didn't go to Germany.

I voted for Lars. Onstad will retire soon and helped seal our fate in the last WCQ campaign and Fernandes is now a Portuguese international...

How can Lars even be a candidate. He has dropped to third on the pecking order of Canadian goalies behind both Sutton and Stamatopoulos and has probably already made his last ever start for Canada if those two stay healthy and the up and comers progress. I voted for Fernandes because of his potential, even though right now it would be Onstad.

Fernandes can still play for Canada but for now I'd say Lars.

I am sorry but I dont understand the poll options at all. Sutton and Stampaulous are the two that are playing for Canada at all the events, and they are not even options? They are the two best goalkeepers, one is past playing for Canada(Onstad), one has not been broughy into it yet(Fernandes), and the other is shut out of ever playing for Canada by the other two(Hirschfeld). So how can the two who are Canada's two goalkeepers that they use at all their friendlies and games be not even in the poll, by people who are not even wanted to play for the country right now.

Sutton is an obvious omission, true. But Lars is starting for the biggest club out of any of the Canadian keepers, so I think that says something.

Stamatopolous was only called up because Yallop liked the chemistry between he and Sutton. He is in piss poor form currently for the worst club in Norways top flight and has since lost his starting spot. I have no idea why he was called up for international duty after the Spain game, i thought he was awful for most of the second half and was bailed out by poor Spanish finishing on a number of occassions. He bobbled the ball numerous times and the second Spain goal was a direct result of one of those bobbles.

To be fair to him, he had a good game against Austria.

But with he's current form I don't think he should be called against Jamaica. Sutton and Hirschfeld should be called. I feel safer now that Hirschfeld is starting at a regular basis at a pretty good level.

I'll concede, he had a decent game in Austria. But yeah, right now i'd say he doesn't warrant a call up.

I can't see Sutton *not* playing against Jamaica in Montreal.

They'll probably call up a youth keeper as back-up.

Yes but even starting for the biggest club out of any of the Canadian keepers when is the last time he was asked to start a game for Canada? It might never happen again so that says something as well.

I'm against starting someone just because were're playing in the city where's he's playing his club soccer.

But I wouldn't mind Hart starting Sutton in MTL if he plans to start Hirschfeld in Kingston and calling a young keeper (likely Wagenaar) to back them up. I think Hirschfeld deserve a start due to his current club form.

Why are people even talking about Lars? Lars is done in Canadian Soccer, just like Onstad is. It is about Sutton and Stampalous now, and how much opportunity to give the up and coming goalkeepers in the country.

Why is Lars done with Canadian soccer?

Even if I think he's criticizing of FY choosing Onstad instead of him for the 2004 WCQ in an Edmonton journal was a little bit childish, I don't think he's done with Canadian soccer unless he doesn't want to play international soccer anymore.

Sutton and Stampaulous have both passed him by, his last start for Canada was over a year ago. He is not even getting asked to come to games for Canada anymore so that is why he is done.

Well the Jamaica tie roster will be announced soon. If he is not asked to start there, and he wont be, maybe you will agree with me. If he was still part of Canadian soccer at all he would be a shoo in to get the start there considering how he is doing with his current club and all.

Basicaly two players who are not even a part of Canadian Soccer anymore on the poll as the best current Canadian goalkeeper, in Onstad and Hirschfeld I just find kind of strange.

I'm not sure Hirsch is a shoo in for the #1 spot, I think he should still be battling with Sutton who's a good keeper too. Considering Sutton almost signed with Start in Norway I would feel that both of them are pretty similar keeper but I would still go with Lars at the moment since he's playing at a higher level.

BTW, Lars was asked for the Luxembourg friendly last november and refused (I think he was injured) and we played 2 games since, so it's tough to see if he was dropped out of the program and we have a new coach.

If Lars reappear on the MNT I think Sutton will have to find a better club fast, TFC is an option if he wants to stay in North America. That will be good for the competition.

Sutton was not playing vs Luxemburg, they already had Stampaulous and they needed a second goalie which is why Lars was asked. I dont recall him having any starts for Canada in the last year and when Sutton and Stampaulous are both available they are the two who are always chosen, thus it makes sense to conclude those two are the two best Canadian goalkeeepers-not Onstad, Hirschfeld, or Fernandes.

Anyway you will see when the team for the Jamaica friendly is announced. Lars will not be chosen and then maybe you will see at last he is done with Canadian Soccer, just as Onstad is. Fernandes it is too early to tell.

Regarding the glamour friendly vs Luxembourg, I suspect Lars told Yallop to go f himself on that occasion (and a few others).
Now would be a good time to try to get Lars back in the fold.

Extremely smart thing to do. He first accepted the invitation and then tell the coach to go f himself. I hope more players would do that.

I forgot how offensive it was to be call for your NT.
