That is pretty classless by the Dynamo FO. A new low in USOC politics. Hopefully, our FO can work something out to get at least a couople of hundred tickets.

Old news. They outbid us before the last round of games had been played.

It's a bidding process. The team that offers the USSF the most guaranteed money gets the game. Before these last rounds of games were played it was announced that regardless of the result in the Carolina/Houston game, FCD would be on the road. At the time it was clear that FCD didn't bid too much, I mean even the PDL team beat us out. It should have been obvious that FCD didn't bid at all. But now finding out that Houston obviously didn't bid that high, knowing that Robertson was unavailable, it's even more obvious. I'm sure the FO will say it has something to do with the turf replacement at PHP....but still. It just sucks that we couldn't have gotten a cup game at home.

Thanks for the info. It is kinda strange that Houston would bid on the game when they presumably knew about the upgrades, and that we ended up with two games when Dallas has their own park and doesn't want any games.

Like I said, I'm sure they didn't even bother to bid knowing that they were replacing the PHP turf. They had the league move one of our regular season games, forcing us into a month long road trip. Guess they couldn't have done that while simultaneously bidding for a USOC home game. Still pisses me off, though. When we give Housuck the beatdown, they had better bid for the semifinal game.

I guess my take on this is the Houston FO is scared they won't have many fans and are afraid too many from Dallas will take away their home field advantage. If they go through with this it will be the most classless move in the 90+ years of the US Open Cup. It will also be a real slap in the face to the person whose name appears on said cup. What sportsmanship.

If they do this, I guarantee you I'll be down there for the game. With school it'll make it tough, but this will only motivate me more to go down there.

One other little nugget at the bottom of the press release says that the winner of this game will play the winner of the LA-Rapids quarterfinal. Let's root for the Rapids in that one or else we'll be playing the semifinal on the road.

Okay people, let's get real here. AEG teams don't have to travel for USOC.
It's always been that way. The "outbid" story is convenient, and probably
has some truth to it, but the reality is that long before the "bidding" process
took hold, AEG teams didn't have to travel, and they still don't.

That said, let's get even more real. How many of us are going down for
a Wednesday night game? 10? 20? Based on my conversation last week
with Oliver Luck, I'm fairly certain that number of FCD fans could be
accomodated with standing room at trackside. If our Front Office
raises their hands and says they can't influence the situation, I'll
    make the calls.

Here's the good news... moving the game to Carl Lewis is a godsend
for us, over playing at Robertson. Flashback to the last 2 nats games
in Honduras; recall how the track KILLS the ability of the crowd to
influence the game. The creamsicles have the largest walkup crowd
in the league this entire season, it's an "authentic" (read: Fair Park '96-'99)
crowd, and they have to KILL IT OFF for this fixture. They would
have gotten 7-8k for this USOC game at Robertson. Easy.

2000 people only 10 rows deep spread around the field 20 yards
from touch is like a picture frame of sound, not a wall of sound.

The creamsicle season base knows how to react at Robertson where
they have sightlines. I doubt very many of them have ever watched
the speed of a pro-game from an oblique angle down low like we had
at the Cotton Bowl. It takes getting used to. Don't be surprised if
this attempt to create an "intimate" crowd backfires on them. I'm
not saying it's gonna, but it *might*.

I know a few of our 'yungins are gearing up to go down, and I know
they'll represent. If we had a 500-strong firm and 100 of us were able
to go, then yeah, all hell would break loose if we were not accomodated.
That ain't reality. Let's pick our battles.

I'm not sure what you perceive as a battle. The move by the Houston FO was a classless one, and we are just pointing it out. Dallas fans will be at this game one way or another.

You Dall-ASS people have no idea what you're talking about. NO ONE wants the game at Carl Lewis Field. The only reason the game will be played there is because the University of Houston will be peforming scheduled maintence on Robertson Stadium. That's why the Dynamo will be on the road for the next 5 weeks.

I am a loud and proud member of the Texian Army who has to buy tickets a game at a time because I can't afford to do the season ticket package. So far only Dynamo season ticket holders will be able to get into the game. Luckily one of my fellow Texian Army buddies has an extra ticket for me, so I know I'll be there to see Houston beat Dallas yet again.

El Capitan looks nice orange. :)

Oh, and one more thing... WHERE'S WALDO?!?!

Epa Pendejo! It's not the venue change that is classless. It is trying to shutout the Dallas fans from attending that is classless.

And how are they doing that? CL Field doesn't hold very many people and you have to make sure that season ticketholders are able to go:

in bed with your mom and your sister.

I'll be at the game whether I have to jump the fence or not.

It was funny "talking" (as much talking you can do with a bunch of fans with kindergarden education levels) to Houston fans on Saturday, most of them didn't even know about the Open Cup game, so I'm sure even under the circumstances, we'll still outnumber them.

Then don't bid for the match, FFS. Or find a bigger venue. Discriminating against travelling fans when more likely than not it won't even be close to full is completely pathetic.

    Why?

Hey I'm all for making the trip just to drum and cheer outside the gates. Show the Dynamo FO they have no class. Imagine the looks on season ticket holder's faces as they trickle out of the venue having been ousted from a run at the Cup.

    Priceless.

They're not discriminating against away fans. If anything there could be a percentage of the Texian Army that can't get in because not everyone has season tickets.

Hopefully it's much ado about nothing, and the Dallas fans that make it down will be able to get in, along with the TA members that don't have season tix.
