I don't think we will be lucky enough to get Beasley. To much talent to fit in Ellingers system. He did help the Fire when he was playing for them.

MLS allocation rules are a shady business. For all we know (stucki excepted), the League might already have another major allocation "penciled in" for KC somewhere down the road.

The bottom line... If DMB really wants to come to RSL, MLS will absolutely make it happen. (IMHO)

Do we still have the rights to Diego Walsh? I'd trade back the SPOC to the Wizards for the allocation! :D

Here's what we could do. We trade Pope to KC for their allocation which they aren't currently using. Pope retires at the end of the year and KC gets the allocation back because of Pope's retirement. That wouldn't be too hard to get done.

Although, like most people, I'm not going to get too excited about this just yet.

I am sure someone already mentioned, it but Pope's buddy from the USMNT, Jimmy Conrad is out for 4-6 weeks from the KC lineup. Maybe they would be interested in him.

Good point, no one had mentioned Conrad's injury. In fact I was just about to say that KC doesn't need Pope since they have Conrad, along with Garcia and Burciaga, but with Conrad injured this could be good timing for that switch.

Hey, you won't hear a word from a guy who drinks as much beer as I do.

But there may be other off the field issues.

    Is Damarcus married?

I noticed that a lot of our players who came here from other teams (Pope, Kreis, Garlick, Klein) are married & have kids.

It's the mirror image of "You go play in Utah" syndrome. If you don't need to play for a club in near the Viper Room, why not play in a place with cheap real estate and Brigades of nannies & day care providers?

    Sucks to be Pope.

Your hypothetical deal does make sense if -

KC has nothing planned allocations wise for the rest of the year.
We pay part or all of Pope's salary for the rest of the year.

I would love to see this happen, but somehow it seems much more likely to happen after Eddie retires.

The quote from the article is that we love to have DaMarcus this year or next. Imagining all sorts of scenarios to get Beasley here now need to keep this in mind.

As for Beasley, he was heer for the USA-Costa Rica WCQ last June, and played until the 86th minute. Remember the quotes fromt he team about how surpirsed they were, and how much they liked it? They weren't pandering comments. All I'm saying is that the WCQ experience and Ellinger may be enough to convince DaMarcus that "This is the place."

Seems the big problem with the "Pope to KC" plan is tha KC is currently paying EJ and Wolff some big money. In theory, only way it works is if KC gives us some players as well as allocation or RSL pays some of Pope's salary at KC (ala Mathis at CO).

    1. Does anybody know the extent of his injury right now at PSV Eindhoven? This is from PSV:

PSV head coach Ronald Koeman has not made any major changes to the starting line-up for the curtain raiser in the Amsterdam Arena between ruling champions PSV and cup winners Ajax. Oscar Moens will start as goalkeeper in the Amsterdam ArenA, as regular keeper Gomes serves a two-match ban. Jason Culina and Lee Nguyen are also suspended; Ibrahim Afellay and DaMarcus Beasley are injured. Timmy Simons will replace André Ooijer in the heart of defence.

    2. I actually saw him play at the Bradenton academy when he was younger (he wowed everybody)

    3. Back in 99 my brother told me that this kid would be rookie of the year (he played with Nelson Akwari)

    4. Year Team Matches Goals

    2005/06 PSV 27 4

What if the only way he comes is if Ellinger is the coach? How would that affect everyone's current stance on Ellinger? Would you rather have Ellinger and DMB or a new coach without DMB?

Does anyone actually think it is a "what if" question? DMB comes only if Ellinger is coach!

i hate this question. i would kill to see DMB here in salt lake, but i would also kill to see ellinger canned instantly.

how bout, bring beas in for the rest of the season and sign him to a contract for a couple years atleast. then after hes signed and the season is over can ellingers ass. that would make me happiest, im all the matters anyways :D

That's right! I forgot that FEEPHA has an international trade deadline thing. So, if it doesn't happen before August 31st, it probably won't happen this year. I'm assuming here.

To be honest, I'm not really thrilled by the possibility of DMB coming. I don't think we need him. The midfield has been very strong lately for RSL. And we are supposedly getting another midfielder, the Costa Rican. I don't think Beasley would hurt RSL (although his form of late has been very bad), but I don't think he makes the team any better. If they were to trade Pope to get him, that might be a positive move for the future of the club, but it won't be what gets them to the playoffs. RSL is playing well right now, and they might be able to get in on their own, but the only thing that is really going to make a difference is Colorado or Chivas starting to lose games.

If they are going to try and lure someone over, the best fit would be Conor Casey. He is exactly the type of player RSL needs right now; a big, strong, hard working forward who can stretch the defense and hold the ball, plus win some balls in the air. A while ago there were rumors of him coming here as well. Frankly the only players I would give up for Beasley would be Eddie Pope or Andy Williams (or of course any of the reserves).

at this point, if we're gonna get Beasley by August 31 then I'm thinking Pope won't be the one going. Maybe if Pope retires or has to take a salary drop here or at a different MLS club for next year then we will have more cash space for Beasley. And remember Kreis could retire this year too. To get the deal done this year, I'd see Andy Williams and Douglas Sequeira on their way out. I like them both a ton, but Williams has the unfortunate tendency to be traded every year and a half, just because he's really good but not an allstar. Sequeira hasn't been playing too well for us, but he is definitely a high quality player so maybe KC would like to see if they can get the most out of him. Maybe both players go, or maybe one of them plus a second, lower salary player. I just better not see Ballouchy's or Cunningham's name in the same sentence as Beasley's any time soon, (in a news article).

I think like most players in the world that contentment has a lot to do with whether or not they are injury prone...

Players that are not happy/content tend to be injured more than players that are happy/content!

Rusty Pierce and Eddie Johnson come to mind immediately on that issue.
Whether DMB will be happy in Salt Lake will be interesting to find out... No?

All this talk is great, but something is confusing me a bit, and I don't think we have discussed it yet:

*Why would DMB want to leave PSV? He's only been there two years, but my understanding is that he is a fan favorite. They won the championship last year, (the year before too?). Is he unhappy there? Are they unhappy with him? Is it the injury? Granted, he won't start in the season opener but we've already determined that he's training (it doesn't seem like a serious injury). Is it just a desire to return stateside? I thought he loved Holland?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him here, but this sounds too good to be true!

I remember seeing a little clip about him this summer, and thanks to the internet, I've found it for all of you good people.
