I got to see the Burn a couple times at the Metros when I was stationed in New London, CT ('96 and '97). I haven't been back to the northeast since '98. But 2008 is looking like a good time to go back for a visit. (pulled the pics from mls n&a)
Looks pretty good but because of who they are and their Lucy ball pulling tendancies I will wait a bit longer before giving congratulations to hard pressed NY area fans. I do qu estion the colr scheme. Why blue? Oh, I guess the can has blue and white on it which begs the question of why their jerseys don't trot at that look.
Beautiful, I still don't understand how they are going to pull that off for the reported price of $100 million in the Metro area....but I hope they do. Good for NYRB and their long suffering fans......all 12 of them.
Sniff....sniff.....what's that I smell? Ohhh.....a road trip, of course. And also the faint smell of toxic waste...........it is New Jersey, after all.
My wife doesn't believe me when -- after watching the Sopranos intro -- I tell her that, yes that's really what "the Garden State" looks like. But the stadium really looks classy. Compare and contrast with the pre-Red Bull plans: Makes me happy for them, happy for MLS, and happy for FCD...seeing as we'll now get to whip the Metros' asses in a proper stadium when we play in NY.
The 2nd photo indicates its from "salzburg.gv.at". Is Red Bull New York modelling their stadium on one in Austria?
I think that is the assumption, given the striking similarities to the design picture and what already exists in Austria. But Red Bull Park will have a stage at one end. So I guess that's different.
But their stage area will have seats that dissapear in soccer mode. A good compromise if they pull it off. I wonder what the area above the stage will look like? That would seem to need to be permanent and detracts from the appearance.
And Salt Lake had a sudden turn around and they've got a stadium in the works now, too. Speaking of Salt Late, it looks like Novak's demon is still causing trouble. In the game against the real Real, "Salt Lake gave itself some trouble in the 58th minute when Atiba Harris took down Sergio Ramos with a reckless, studs-up foul from behind. Harris, another halftime insertion, was shown a red card and sent off the field." I saw another game where it appeared Atiba was mad when the coach moved him to a defender position. He very quickly got a yellow and then a red on just down right dirty plays. If Ellinger keeps putting up with him, then he deserves his troubles.
The sad thing is that the northern part of jersey casts a hideous glow on the rest of the state; some of which is very nice. I can drive through almost 100 miles of jersey and see some beautiful land and a lot of farms and forest. Its just that since northern jersey resembles a s***hole that the rest of the state gets a bad name. Of course any state that doesn't trust you to pump your own gas due to safety reason gets a huge thumbs down in my book (of course PA isn't much better. Only place I know of that has fireworks stores that aren't allowed to sell their merchandise to residents of that state. Makes not a lick of sense.)
To be fair, we have o idea of waht the stadium will look like, until we see the final designes. If the Red Bull guy will commit to putting as much money as needed into the stadium, it will be great. Nice that RSL is getting a stadium, as well as Colorado. Does not Houston need a stadium? I wish DCU could get one, wihtout public housing included, since we know how that works. Good intentions pave the road to Hell, along with unbought stuffed dogs. Dead but dreaming, Scipio Diabolus, vox fatum. Contra. If Diegoredd says it is tv gold, what else do you need?
Exactly. PHP's initial design included a partial roof, and it was the first thing to get axed in the name of cost. We will probably see at least some minor changes in this design in the coming 60-90 months.
Three things: 1) The stadium's not bad, I agree, but it is rather generic. Oh look, another steel and concrete box! You would have hoped that the club and the league would have gone for something flashier. 2) Nice stadium (see #1), OK, but the team still sucks. Take a look at this D.C. United fan's response to the news: http://majorleaguesoccer.blogspot.com/2006/08/rbny-are-arizona-cardinals-of-mls.html 3) Yeah, the club sucks (see #2) but the leauge is hoping (and has always hoped) that the club will be the MLS juggernaut, thus raising the league's/soccer's profile in the world's media capital. And the new management seems to be doing just that. Bruce Arena as head coach. Check. New stadium. Check. And now all they need to do is improve the product on the pitch. I wouldn't be surprised to see RBNY pushing for the title in a couple of years.
