Plus, by having the 'crazies' on one of the 'end zone' sides makes for some incredible goals. * It's amazing when your team scores right there, players usually celebrate right there in front of the grandstand. (Barring any 'North goal' droughts that RSL sufferered the first year. Was it just me, or did it take them for ever to score on the North side in front of the fans?) *Plus, it looks awesome on tv to see the reaction. This is just one example, but I'm sure I could find video from any stadium that puts the 'fan section/barra brava/supporters' behind the goal. Notables: AC and Inter Milan,(they share a stadium and their respective 'crazy' sections are on opposite sides, Boca Juniors (Actually, just about every team from Argentina and Brasil). I don't think this is the practice in Spain as much, though I could be wrong. (For me their fans aren't as rabid). And England, well in England, the 'crazies' are everywhere in the stadium, not just the grandstand. Any body with different info/knowledge, please contribute.
Two things I hope they don't do. 1) Stage at one end. I know, it would help bring in some $$$, but it's ugly as all hell. If they must, I hope they put in some kind of removable seating for the games, and lose the lighting/speaker rig. 2) The roof covering the stands should start just above the top row of seats, and not a mile above them. I think it makes the stadium look smaller, and just looks stupid. Kind of alot of wasted space for noise to get out, and rain to get in. I have included a picture of Bridgeview to further support this. The picture shows both my pet peeves about soccer specific stadia in the U.S. I have never been a fan of Bridgeview. In fact....the more I look at it, the more it looks like a rodeo arena. YUCK!! I know, I know.....I should just be happy we are getting someplace to call home. Believe me, I am!! I am just picky!
We'll have a stage. Sorry, that sucks, but it'll be reality. the "roof" over liverpool is fascinating. The downward angle has to keep a lot of the noise in the stadium. Wow.
I agree, I don't like several characteristics of recent MLS stadia (Dallas/Colo/Chicago) * They are very flat, with the field dug out of the ground. * They're too open, what's the point of having a roof if it's too high to block rain or trap noise (the best part of a roof). * Red Bull got it right. They're going to build up, have the seats more on top of eachother, and cap it off with a roof. The fans will be close to the action, and that place will be intimidating. * I like RSL's design because (according to the drawings) it will be a little steeper, and the hotel overlooking the pitch gives it a closed in feel. Very nice, I just hope it turns out like that.
I know there will be a stage, but damnit....I don't have to like it!! I kinda have a hard time believing there will be enough concerts there to build a permanent stage. Look at Franklin Quest, or Covey....or whatever it's called. With Usana, and the fairgrounds, I just don't see too many concerts at the new stadium.
I hear you, but I think they already worked out a deal with the USANA people to appease them. (RSLFM has posted info on this I believe). *Lower roof, grandstands steeper.
I would have loved (now that this relationship with Madrid is showing itself) for the outside of the stadium to have a similar (but much smaller) look to it. But you're right Moqui, that's a stadium.
So if it's a concert venue as well as the home of RSL, can it really be called a soccer specific stadium?? I know.....let it go.
You guys are all a bit ambitous. THIS http://www.stadiumguide.com/reebok.htm should be our model. Much more similar in size, and probably the best under 30k stadium in the world.
Actually, benches would be fine in the supporter's sections. They stand the whole game anyway. Plus, if you are trying to bang a drum, seats get in the way.
We have benches in the endline at PHP and I prefer them for standing and jumping. Any GA section, which the endline basically is at PHP, should be benched.
I'm heading over to England in a few weeks and am going to catch a Charlton match. Looking at their stadium, which holds 27,100....I like the closeness of the fans. It would be nice for the new RSL stadium to have a "closeness" sort of feel to it....would help for some intimidation during matches as well. Might have to try and report back after the match.... http://www.stadiumguide.com/valley.htm
agree with stuck and texgator... when those last moment goals are scored, there's nothing like jumping all over each other without seats in the way. No benches makes it easier to throw your megaphone when the other team scores in stoppage... good times.
5 PM tonight County Council meeting Salt Lake County Council Government Center 2001 South State Street #N2200 Salt Lake City, Utah 84190 Hours: 8 am - 5 pm Phone: 801 468-2930 We will need to change the title of this thread to "Rochester Stadium Wish List" if the County Council does not come through tonight. Sorry for the Spam, but should we show up to this in RSL gear? Who should we call?
The County is firmly on board. If tonight they decide to delay the stadium vote, please understand it's only to help them save face a little more. They need to appear tough to a largely skeptical public. They're committing a ton of money and should be able to process their decision however they need to. Eventually they will sign off. So whatever happens tonight, please no more silly "Rochester" references.
It sounded to me like Checketts wasnt sure about that. He had "faith" that they would sign off on it, but still had lots of loose ends to tie up. I am hoping hoping hoping for the best. I just dont want to jump the gun (that your holding lol)...
I know that when the Jazz moved from the Salt Palace to the Delta Center, people got the same relative spot in the stadium when they renewed their season tix.
