If this is true... That would be UNBELIEVABLE. I hadn't even heard these rumors until this morning. I couldn't find it being discussed anywhere on here, either, so I'm not the only one this is news to. DAMARCUS F'ING BEASLEY, YO!
if he plays the same way he did in the world cup, I would rather have ballouchy. Beasley could be awesome to grab, but he hasnt shown much of late and would probably want a bit of money. Have to see what plays out...
And, ah, where exactly did you hear these rumors? Edit: Ah nevermind. ********in' bigsoccer skin changes links to almost the same color as the text. Didn't see the link at first.
But this is MLS, not the World Cup. DMB and Ballouchy could be on the field at the same time. You'd see Kreis back up top or on the bench.
Massive no-brainer to bring him if we can get him. Even if he is still playing without confidence offensively, he would be a massive upgrade defensively and would even out our attack. The thought of Ballouchi being able to look for DMB left or Klein right or JC early... All without giving up anything defensively (in fact, improving)...wow.
DMB knows how to kill off a game with a late lead (RSL's bête noire) But what are the salary cap implications? He won't come cheap. If/when Pope clears out...so will $400K. Hmmm....
The fact that RSL is 4th in line on the allocation chart does not help matters at all. BUT, it could be a blessing in disguise if RSL is able to unload Eddie Pope's bloated salary (along with Kreis or Sequeira, perhaps) to get that #1 allocation. Bam! Solves a few problems right there!
Few thoughts: - We would get a major allocation upon Eddie Pope's retirement - perhaps that's part of this deal? Or maybe he's just being traded for an allocation, which in that case... - We clear a serious amount of salary with his departure and can make DMB the marquee "write off" on salary cap, i.e. the player that makes more than cap but where only max salary counts (read: Landy in LA) - If DMB arrives in SLC at the same time that Soto joins the club, does that mean that we play a 5-man midfield with Ballouchy and Soto inside with Talley behind them and DMB and Klein on the wings? That could be interesting if what we hear about Soto as a free-creative is correct. Of course, a three man backline would be scary for us with Torres, Novak, Forko and Besagno as the lead horses in the race for playing time back there. - Troubling part to me here is that Scarlett was a less-refined version of Beasley: small, fast, can cover back on defense and has absolutely no consistency with his touch nor ability to serve good balls into the box on a routine basis. Scarlett wasn't the answer by a long shot, would DMB be much of an improvement? - If DMB is being pursued, and E doesn't want to move his central midfield around, then does the left footed Soto just not get signed or does he come off the bench? - Lastly, for those Ellinger haters out there (myself included), does the mere fact that Beasley wants to play for him make us less likley to give him the pink slip in '07? Does E have nine lives? That's the scariest byproduct of this entire hypothetical.
That is so true...perhaps we need to think of Ellinger as more of a Euro manager...identifies the players he wants, controls the starting line-up, leaves the coaching to "coaches"...will that fix the tactical problems and the strange line-ups? Hard to say. But, if he pulls off getting DMB...it would be impossible to say that the personel has not improved dramatically since last year.
Beaz would be an upgrade no matter what. Can't we just have Ballouchy up top as a a-mid, where he wants to be? Pastorino, make this happen!!! Please?
Before anyone makes the joke about DMB coming to Salt Lake to help himself "dry out".... Don't bother. Not funny.
Yesterday was such a weird day on the board that I wondered what I would find when I logged on today. And there it is, a totally random thread about DaMarcus Beasley. So I readied my bag of moderator tricks to reign in what surely is a very random "wish" thread . . . . . . but there's a link? And attributed quotes? It's a real story?! Speculative, yes, but real. This makes the day automatically odder than yesterday here in RSL land.
David James asked Ellinger about these rumors this morning on 1280 and coach E. confirmed that they are actively pursuing DMB. He siad they hope to have him in an RSL kit - if not this year, next year. I'm sure Merk will post the audio archive.
With 3 teams ahead of us in line for an allocation, who do you all think we could give up to get Beasley? I'd say Sequeira and Williams both have some value still, I wouldn't be too sad to see Pope go and I could see that happening. It seems unthinkable to me to let Ballouchy go, but I'm sure he does have a lot of trade value right now. The Deseret News article said they want Beasley opposite Klein, "for obvious reasons," though it'd definitely be worth it to give up Klein for Beasley I think. How many players will we lose, and who, in order to make everyone ahead of us and the league agree? Would the other three teams be dealing any of their players up in order to get the allocation and pass it down to RSL? I don't think anyone will want Kreis too badly, which is a shame. If we give up Jeff Cunningham I'm moving to D.C.
While I would be excited to get him to, dont you think we should wait before we get all extatic about it? I will reserve celebration till the contract is signed because there are a lot of things that could prevent this. Could we even afford him? His salary will likely be upwards of 800,000 or more. And there are three teams ahead of us on the allocation list. Lets be a little patient first.
Yes, but all we would have to do is trade for the first allocation. We don't have to deal with all three teams. RSL would only have to work out a deal with KC.
How's he been doing over there? Seems like he was doing a good job as a sub and occasional starter, but he didn't play at all for Eindhoven in their friendly against Newcastle a week or two ago.
Really? I hope you're right. In that case, does KC need a center back that costs $400,000? Darn, nope. I guess they could use some midfielders, which are starting to pile up in Salt Lake.
True but what would we give up? And would what we give up equal out to what we get. I dont know if we have a whole lot to give, and the few that we do we need to hold on to. Kries has no transfer value, either does pope. Pope may retire, but I dont think that will help us except for freeing up funds to pay Beasley. I cant see anyone wanting most the people on our team, with the exception of Cunningham, and we cant afford to give him up because we would have no scoring threat at all. Its not that I am trying to be negative, I would love to get more talent here by all means. I am just saying be patient because I dont know if we could get him or not. Also, he says he wants to come because of Ellinger. That means if we do get him, we are stuck with ellinger as our coach again...
