Yeah, SkySports is saying after Euro 2008 he will retire. He does say that this may be his last year in London as he wants to finish his career in Germany.

Yes, it says 2 more seasons, but only 1 in London.

Original interview was with Kicker I believe, where he announced his probable retirement after 2008, both international and club level.

And like sixfive said, 1 in London, cuz he wants to go back to Germany.

To be honest, I don't see him in the first team for 2 years. I'm praying that he has a good, solid last season.

lets hope he can recreate his form in the second half of last season, brilliant.

im not sure what i think of Poom, or more to say, im not sure what wenger sees in him, but lets hope its something special, because almunia is only a back up to a reliable number 1.

What was Poom intended for anyways? I see him as a backup to Almunia, like a Cygan style mould :p
I'm guessing he's an experienced GK just in case, with low wages of course.

that sounds about right to me, but im not sure id like almunia as our number 1, so who knows what wengers plans are for the future.

    Robert Green to West Ham
    Andreas Isaksson to Manchester City

Both at a price of 2 million pounds

Why haven't Arsenal looked at either of these players? Are they not good enough?

Both are good players. I would have taken Green over Isaksson but, you know what happened the last time we had an English 'keeper...

I don't see either one of those as a replacement for Jens. Arsenal needs to look for a new goalie, and I don't rate those 2 anywhere near good enough.
Isaksson is #1 for sweden, but I haven't seen much of him really.

he wasn't that bad in the world cup...

I would've said Landreau but PSG just bought him. I would turn my attention to a new Serb startlet who has been voted the best youth keeper by all of the Euro U21 coaches. His name is Vladimir Stojkovic. He played for Red Star this past season and has joined Nantes in France on a 3 year deal. I'm sure he would be interesting in coming to Arsenal.. :)

As for others.. well Itandje from Lens is an option, other than that who is really "GOOD enough??"

I can't see anyone from Italy.. maybe De Sanctis but I doubt it. Spain? Well many think Kameni, but I doubt it as well. Casillas.. long shot. Maybe 3 more seasons after he has played enough for Madrid.

    Doblas is an average no.1.

Andreas Palop of Sevilla isn't too shabby.

    But top top keepers... hmm...

Hildenbrand. Now there's a keeper I would be willing to put in our goal straightaway. Plus VfB Stuttgart aren't setting the world on fire these days so he would be tempted.

Micheal Rensing. Good GK, but his future is at Bayern.

Ouch. Harsh. Seaman was great until his last year or so.

So could we have tried to sign Buffon? and how does he stack up to Lehmann? (aside from being 8 years younger).

I know he's better, just didnt know what other people opinions were, and whether he was actually available. Thought I read a while back that they had thought about trying to get him.

edit: nevermind my posts about this. After thinking about it I see that it would be stupid to sign Buffon this year, probably for a lot of money, when you still have Lehmann, and have one of them be unhappy.

Buffon is staying at Juve, but some reports had him linked with Inter recently.

With Lehmann now putting a date to his retirement and saying "We will have to see how the season goes, whether I extend with Arsenal or not. I would still like to play another season in Germany" isnt it possible Buffon could transfer after next season. Buffon said he was tempted by a move to Arsenal, but decided to tackle Serie B, but if Juventus isnt on a road back to Serie A and CL success he probably wont want to stick around, and if Lehmann left he would have zero competition at Arsenal. I think one of the reasons Wenger didnt go after him might be that hes saving him for next summer. Anybody else see this happening?

Don't see it happening. Buffon stayed with juve because he doesnt want to move out of Italy. Thats not going to change by next year. He loves italy, and has no reason to leave, and was never a viable option for us because of that.

Juve will be back in Serie A next season as well - giving him even less of a reason to leave.

Yeah, Juve will be back in Serie A, but unless they fork out a shitload of cash, they won't be challenging for a while. Best of luck to Deschamps though.

I really thought Buffon was gonna end up at Milan this season, Arsenal was just wishfull thinking ;)

@Marakana: Hildebrand would be great, he's #1 on my realistic wishlist, not counting Buffon, Iker, and Cech :p

Ochoa has shown class as well. He's still with Club America. I'm sure Wenger is already shopping for a GK though. Next summer somebody has to come in for sure.

Plus with "the Jens connections" Timo just might decide to take that offer.
