while i understand this is an Oprah book club selection, and i could give a rats arse about that, this is a book that really should be read by all... i believe i may require my Senior English class to read it... a short, easy-to-read, but hard-to-imagine, a story that shouldn't be forgotten... i am surprised i took this long to get my hands on it... but a worthy 2 hours and thought afterwords... your thoughts?
Read it when I was 15 for school. Really the first truly poignant, chilling book I had ever read. The final paragraph has always stuck with me as a reminder that real life doesn't always have a happy ending.
I read this book in 8th grade. I was obviously young then, but this was a touching book. Definately an "experience."
Other Holocaust books that should be read: Seed of Sarah by Judith Magyar Isaacson Survival in Auschwitz by Primo Levi The Reawakening by Primo Levi
I didn't even hear about this until reading it just now. I checked to see if there was anything about it... but Elie Wiesel was attacked earlier this month in a hotel. They just arrested a suspect who posted on some Australian hate site. http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2884266
I'm a junior in HS. My honors english class was required to read Night my freshman year. It is seriously the only book that has been required by my school that I've actually enjoyed. Besides maybe Gatsby. It's an amazing book, and if you haven't read it yet, you need to.
Read it for the first time in 8th grade for English and History. Read it again sophomore year for another history course. It didn't necessarily have a bigger impact the second time around, but a different one - I was far more knowledgeable of the history the second time around. It is definitely a book everyone should read, and reread.
