Hi all, I found this at Real Madrid website. I don't know the guy who wrote this watched the game or not. I feel funny because i think they try to make excuses http://www.realmadrid.com/articulo/rma32889.htm
Guys, the "rising like a salmon" comment was a dig (or homage) to Ray Hudson - he used to say that when Roy Lassiter (and others, he used it a few times) went up for headers many years ago. I really enjoyed watching that game. We played much faster than we normally do for longer periods of time. Nowak must be even more proud of the boys than I was. Is that all you got, Europe? ReAL MaDRID and Chelsea?, pi-shaw Now I hope The Madrid Real beats the Salt Lake City Real this coming weekend and Barcelona spanks the metros like a red-headed stepchild ........
I'm glad someone else remembers the Ray Hudson quote on the salmon! It was after a game that DC won in overtime on a Bobby Convey header; the original quote included "Bobby", so it was especially appropriate for Boswell. I cracked up when I heard it again last night.
What do you expect? The Real Madrid website exists to promote Real Madrid! So it's not too bad, really. They actually give DC pretty high praise for the goal, "Duró poco la alegría porque el D.C. United, aprovechando una pérdida en el centro del campo, trenzó una preciosa jugada que culminó con la igualada por medio de Eskandarian (25´). Roughly - DC wove together a beautiful play culminating in Eskandarian's equalizer.
Okay, so a half day after the good feelings about tying Madrid have dissapated some, how about some of the things United did badly. 1. Erpen's passing. Again, this was absolutely atrocious at times in both halves. It absolutely boggles my mind that DC hasn't given up goals because of this, but a few of Madrid's best attacks came directly from Facu's turnovers. He played brilliant defense during the game, but that doesn't mean much if when you steal the ball you give it directly back a lot of the time. 2. Real's goal. I thought that although it was a very good pass by Raul that Namoff got caught ball watching some. It wouldn't have been an easy play, but I think if he had anticpiated better he could have cut off the through ball before it got to Cassano. Also, Perkins and Namoff need to work on their coverage of the goal. It was clear that Bryan was trying to cut off the far post and when that happens Troy needs to cover the near post. I guess Perkins thought that Namoff would stay shielding the near post and started out towards the middle of the goal which made it virtually impossible to get to the shot off the post. It was a good finish, but goals shouldn't be going in on the near post like that.
Our boys looked world class last night! They played fearlessly, with heart and purpose. Every person in the stadium and those watching on TV had to come away with the feeling that they just witnessed something special. I know I did.
Late post (network at the job turned into a notwork)after everything has been said, but that was huge for United and huge for the 66,000 fans. Teeny tiny for Goff who predicted a 3-1 loss. Wonder if we'll get a rematch next spring?
IMO, Real deserved a one goal win. In my eyes, it was about 60 minutes of even play, and then 30 minutes of Real being in control, and unlucky not to get a 2nd. YMMV.
meh-, rm sure finished strong, that was clear, but dcu was not without chances even when rm was mostly controlling stuff. i don't think dcu was ever out of the game, otherwise i'd agree with you. so, yeah, YMMV
I don't know if I've ever been more proud to wear the Red and Black!!!! Extremely impressive effort!! DC came out wanting AND expecting to get a result in this one. VAMOS UNITED!! Enjoy the week of rest!!!
This article was written in Spanish first then translated to English. To be honest I've gone through tons of stuff from the Spanish boards and foung not ONE thing positive said about the US or DC United or even Seattle's fantastic stadium. The only things I did find was 1) DC United was one of many subpar opponents that Madrid was going to play friendlies with and the only team worth a damn in their preseason on schedule was Fulham. 2) The field in Seattle was too hard and they were happy not to get any injuries there. 3) It was all about Madrid, the only positive thing written about DC United was that the play leading to United's goal was a thing of beauty... the complemented our passing leading to that goal... thats it. Aside from that its like everyone is hypnotized into thinking all things Real Madrid and not even give a rats ass who they played. Very sad for any opponents looking for any recognition...
yeah, well, they're all thinking "pre-season", "experimental" blah blah blah, blah blah blah, blah blah blah. what do they care? they have their own season coming up. but, come to think of it, when it comes down to it, what do we care what they care? we all had a good time watching our guys play well against a giant club. that's all i care about. screw 'em. GO UNITED!!!!!
well, ok, it shows rm looking like they had many chances to score but simply flubbed them. in my head, i had the replays they had on the broadcast showing why rm didn't score. often, a guy in black had something to do with it....
You know, the best thing about last night (um, early this morning) is that MLS is only going to get better and better with each coming year. Now, if only we can hang onto Boswell, Gros and Perkins for another three years . . . Man, I'm sleep deprived and still feelin' good. The next home game can't come soon enough for me.
I was fortunate enough to attend last night's match. Great atmosphere, and fans cheered good play by both teams even though it must have been 500 to 1 as far as fans wearing RM gear as opposed to DCU stuff. First half was excellent and I thought DC was slightly the better team. DC really exploited Beckham's lack of speed and looked very dangerous in attack. Mostly one way traffic in the second half though full credit to DC for not bunkering and maintaining its composure. To be candid, RM was unlucky not to win as they had several excellent chances. However, I really think DC deserved the draw for its determined and, yes, skillful play. I thought Perkins was MOTM -- great saves -- and was surprised at how much defense Freddy played. Crowd loved Freddy almost as much as Beckham and RVN. One big difference between going against RM and MLS play was apparent. Any kind of loose DC pass or casual play was instantly, and dangerously, countered. Anyway, GREAT effort by DCU and Eurosnob wankers and trolls can go &$()@&#@)&)@ themselves.
Shouldn't you call them jerk-offs? When I was in the AIM chat last night, I told the people there that they worry too much about Eurosnobs. We've got a few former Eurosnobs in Barra Brava and the Screaming Eagles (hi Srdan ). Bottom line is that you can't force MLS on soccer fans. Soccer fans who live in the USA and ignore MLS will hopefully start to follow the league. But if they don't, so what? The fact that they might look down on the league does not affect my enjoyment of it.
