I do think RSL and NYRB will both get destroyed on Saturday. More RSL than NYRB.

May I please ask that you all consider the purpose of the thread and stay on topic? And no excuses...or lots.

Okay people, either stick to posting various excuses from Real Madrid (i.e. the tears in Becks' eyes from no longer being England captain caused him to suck a great sucking) or the thread gets closed.

    And I thank you.

LOL it looks like Maradonna was going to say something like, "Oh my gwaaaad, sisterrrr, you have GOT to get your hair done at my salon. Theres this cute haircutter that stirs me where the sun don't shine..."

    Yep, the photo disturbs me...

I thought he's saying something along the lines:

I ordered a full glass of vodka.

I read in another thread that RM DID complain about the grass -- too dry and hard. I was at the match and the field did look dry and brown in many patches.

By the way, the crowd was supporting both teams and good play in general and did not "switch" from supporting RM to favoring DC. However, all but the RM hard cores certainly appreciated DC's tremendous effort.

Verdy was getting drubbed in the J-league up until then, and got sent down to the second division after the season.

After that result, I can no longer take these pre-season matches seriously.

Did they play their first team and play hard and play well? If so, then lets talk. Otherwise this has no bearing on last night's match.

I think the important thing to take away from this game is that RM is still in pre-season and not up to their regualr season fitness level.

Unlike other athletic endevours, in soccer you can attain an incredible level of improvement in fitness in two short weeks.

We're damn lucky we didn't play them in September, or we'd be:

So let me see if I understand --

When Perkins, whose annual salary is equivalent to about 2 days of van Nistelrooy's annual salary, so when Perkins stones van Nistelrooy point blank one on one, twice, that's because Ruud (who has played all summer at the World Cup) is out of shape?

Toast? Feh. They played hard. We tied. They're out of shape, but we played well. Tie was a fine result. Could have been different but it wasn't.

You think they don't care about the result? The game they're showing on CSN right now would suggest otherwise. They sure weren't playing in the 90th as if they didn't care...

I agree with you, but I think the toast post was in jest.

See what happens when you miss breakfast? Sense of irony is gone, gone, gone. Oh well. Guess I'm just over tired from staying up late last night.

I don't know. The cheers for DCU's play were significantly more noticeable as the match wore on. Whether or not that indicates 'switching' I can't say, but at the very least it indicates acknowledgement of good play; acknowledgement that was far less apparent in the early going.

I agree, I noticed this as well. My section didn't seem to be for either team at first, but began to cheer a little more as it wore on. The DC goal DEFINITELY had a bigger reaction in my area, place went nuts.

I think this is more due to the fact that neither of these teams plays within 2500 miles of Seattle than anything else. Decided awhile ago I was rooting for DC, should have asked you guys for chants to start. Ah well, live and learn.

Yes they played their first team. They played hard enough for Beckham to almost get into a fight with a Verdy player. And they were pissed enough that Roberto Carlos was the only player to thank the fans after the match, even though they were supposed to be there for the fans and to give themselves a good image.

Barcelona tied with Yokohama Marinos a couple years back, then came back last year to try for a win, but ended up with another draw.

Bayern got beat 1-0 by Urawa just a little while ago.

It just doesn't matter how hard you try if you aren't in form and in shape.

Yes, yes, yes. Thanks for getting it. This is an excuses thread. It's expected that people will make jokes coming up with various excuses as to why DC did well, or RM did not do well.

What's BS coming to? Just as a reminder: the use of one of these:  usually implies the post shouldn't be taken at face value.
