Actually, apart from the font for "EURO12" in the Croatia/Hungary bid's logo (which I like), I prefer the Poland/Ukraine logo. (The C/H logo looks a bit, shall we say....."flamboyant" to me.) Anyway, it's only the bid logo, which I'm sure would change upon awarding the tournament.

(I'm sure a good logo is the main criterion UEFA are looking for, BTW.)

The CRO-HUN logo is a lot more creative and shows better the co-operation of two countries,I find.On the other hand, the POL-UKR logo is a lot more simple, and sometimes simplicity can be more attractive.

and maybe things like this count more than we think, let's just remember the success of the Portuguese bid for Euro 2004 with the appealing motto: "Portugal - We love football"

To be honest, I don't see how the logo proves that one bid is superior to the other..

I'm sure Croatia/Hungary will be asked to make their logo smaller. Remember, the logo goes everywhere, on t.v., commericials, newspapers, magazines, soccer balls, clothing etc. They don't want the logo taking up all the space, they need room for advertising and the like. I think both logo's achieve what they were going for; Cro/Hun for creativeness, Pol/Ukr for simplicity.

haha much better, though its harder to see the logo now...I like Cro/Hun's idea for it, it really captures both flags and colours, even if that means we still have too look at that picnic table checkered tablecloth arrangment that is Croatia's flag :p

It was a joke, relax. Croatia's jersey's are very nice. No one was talking about the way grass is cut on the field..

I still think the euro2012 in one is genius (euro12,eu2012).. its really cool. And obviously once the country gets the bid, they will take out the 'Croatia/Hungary or Poland/Ukraine bid for the UEFA Euro 2012'. which will make it much smaller! Plus I just got those pictures from typing euro2012 in google and using the first two pictures I found.. im sure there are smaller versions of our logo reformatted to that size, so everything is much clearer.

Flamboyant? its a guy kicking a ball.. with out two flags joint together to make the guy... maybe you just can't see that, and thats why you like the Poland/Ukraine one?? because its simple.. and maybe your mind is simple too ahhaha:D naw im playing everyone has their own opinion, but I think our's shows creativity, and the euro2012 is just amazing..

Yes, I can see what it's meant to be. Maybe you can't read between the lines of what I meant by "flamboyant". (Hint: it was code for "gay"....not that there's anything wrong with that, as they used to say on Seinfeld.)

So it models a gay dressed in picnic table checkered tablecloth:D isn't it a lot more imaginative than that of the POL-UKR bid?:p

Yeah I know what flamboyant means... but I still dont see how someone kicking a soccer ball is gay? Are you trying to say everyone who kicks a ball is gay? seriously..

I think it's just ok.everyone can have a different impression of a logo like this.after all,the aim of an emblem is to capture,to pique or to put the subject of the advertisment into the lime-light.so,it fills the requirements

Just for the record... the great Polish astronomer Nicolas Copernicus did not prove the world was round. That was already known at least some 1000 years before he lived, and possible much before that too. I think what you wanted to suggest was that Copernicus "proved" the world revolved around the sun, not the sun around the Earth - hence the Copernican Model (Sun-centered solar system) named after him for having made this claim. However, the suggestion of him "proving" this, is also untrue. Copernicus (and also his predecessor, Galileo) were both never able to prove the Copernican system was literal truth with persuasive evidence, despite their respective significant findings on solar phenomena such as celestial orbits and sunspots. I looked into this matter deeply, it's just not true what popular myth of today tells us. Anyhow, Copernicus was indeed one of the greatest astronomers the world has ever known.

I'm not sure how you decided to divert a comment on Slavic peoples, to East Europeans in general and religion. Regardless, Poland is not the exception in terms of religion among Slavs or East Europeans. Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Czech Republic are all Slavic countries with Roman Catholic predominance. Lithuania and Hungary are predominately Roman Catholic, and so is half of Latvia (non-Slavic East Europeans). True though, Hungary is considered Central Europe by most Europeans. It might be worthy to also mention that before the mid 15th Century, the Christianized parts of Russia and Ukraine including Moscow and Kiev were predominately Catholic before government interference by the Czar to nationalize his church, thus creating the autonomous Russian Orthodox Church. Despite centuries of heavy persecution and suppression, these Catholics are a healthy minority.

I've never heard of an ignorant Hungarian, and half my family background is Hungarian. Poland has contributed greatly to sciences, arts, music, and culture to Europe. Considering that Poland, for the most part, has always been under the hostilities of its German and Russian neighbors, it's quite amazing, to say the least, that a Poland and a Polish people even exist in our day. Constant attempts by neighbors to destroy their country is perhaps why it hasn't a preserved city like Prague or Budapest to show off bygone architectural beauty, but if anything else, Poland is showing off its strength to survive. More importantly, it has a world-reknowned reputation of warm and genuine people.

Anyways, sorry if I've diverted too far from thread topic. Carry on without me, please. :)

btw Copernicus is the medieval Klose. :D The polish claim on him is weak, he was born on polish territory to a german mother, the ethnicity of his father is unknown, might be polish might be german too.

    Logo

both those logos shown above look waaaaay better than the one Italy is running. God, ours is downright ugly. On the logo alone, I don't want to get it. Hopefully somebody wakes up and sets it right.

There is no way UEFA will let that fly.

    ps - I wasn't too hot over Portgual's logo in 2004.

    RE: Italian Bid

sorry to say, but all this talk of Italy not getting EC'12 because of the corruption and scandal makes me roll my eyes.

to those that say it, do you at least know what your talking about ?

The Italian FA who is runs all National Teams and the Euro 2012 bid is *NOT* the same body that is presiding over the scandal. That particular body is the Italian League (Lega Calcio) and 4 different legal prosecutors.

They are 2 entirely different organisations that are completely independant of each other.

At any rate, Italy does indeed have Portugal's vote secured. This is a definite.

Italy dropped out of the running to host the 2006 U-21, that was held in May, so Portugal could get it. In exchange Portugal gave Italy their vote for the Dec 8 ballot.

As for the stadiums, well. I would disagree that Italy wouldn't need work done. Refurbishing for WC'90 was 16 years ago and considering EC'12 is 22 years after the last WC in Italy, that's a lot of time to pass. The Olympics were a great oppotunity to completely redo the Communale Stadium in Torino. What a perfect excuse to redo that stadium.

Personally I can't see any new stadiums being build, but after a couple of decades renovations are always needed to existing ones.

I've never heard of an ignorant American, and none of my family is part American.....excuse me?! are you serious??? We (Hungarians) have been controlled for centuries by foreigners.. not just 'hostilities' really... I seriously don't know where you are coming from. If you were Hungarian, you would know. We were controlled by Austria for how many years??! Couple hundred??? We had no rights, no say in anything, they took all of Hungary's money.. but we still managed to 'survive' and build a better capital city then they did, isnt that ironic? Or maybe because we have heart. Listen to Hungary's national anthem, and you will see how dark our past is. We had to rebel against Austria to get our rights. and before that, we were controlled by the Turks... we protected all of Europe from the Turks for a long time.. untill we finally kicked them out of our country and forced them back. That is how we lost Erd (Transylvannia) to Roumania.. There was a cultural genocide in Erd for about 20 years, it was horrible for the Hungarians. ooh and after WW1 we lost 2/3s of our country, 2/3s... even Austria got some of our land, when we were Austria-Hungary.. what about those 5 million Hungarians living in all of those various countries around Hungary. They are still proud to be Hungarian, they still speak Hungarian, teach their children to speak it, build Hungarian churchs and schools.. they are still living as Hungarians. and than there was the control of the Soviet Union over Hungary.. Hungary was the only nation to actually rebel against the Soviet Union.. picture it, a country of 10 million rebelling against the whole Soviet Union. We would have won if the rebellion was based on guts only.. the whole nation fought together. We declared Hungary out of the Warsaw Pact, and asked help from the West.. but none was sent, they were 'occupied' with other events in Egypt. But yeah, im suprised too a country of 40 million + survived such 'hostilities' by neighbouring countries such as Poland did.. its a miracle they are still around.. being part Hungarian, I am disapointed you didn't know this, and how you can say that Poland has had such a dark history when Hungary has had one of the darkest of all nations, if not the darkest.

I'm sorry, but it just seems to me that you take everything the wrong way. I dont think MiamiAce was downplaying any part of Hungarian history. He was simply telling us about Poland's history, because it seemed you were underestimating it, which you were. He wasn't in any way talking about what has and what hasn't happened to Hungary during it's history as Hungary wasn't the topic of conversation there..

I just don't see how Poland had a tough history at all considering Hungary's... Poland's history doesn't come close to Hungary's, and thats a fact. I wasn't 'underestimating' it, just compared to Hungary's.. it shouldnt even be mentioned. If you want to talk about struggle and survival, read up on Hungarian history, not Polish.
