I predict it will be more like 3-14. RSL will have to settle for a field goal early on, and will never be able to get its offense going. The only high point will be an interception in the end zone that would have otherwise been a third DC TD.

    Oh, wait......

Bring on the KoolAid. In my Chivas pregame post I said that there was no way that a team after loosing a game like they did against Dallas could lose to Chivas. Well they didn't lose, but they did the improbable again. Despite all that, I go back to my previous argument simply because if it were me on a team that lost a couple games that way and we were playing the best team in the league, I would have a total chip on my shoulder and come out crazy. RSL 2 - DC U 1.

the hard core fan/fair weather fan bandwagon discussion is lame. everyone on here is obviously a hard core fan, the fair weather people gave up long ago. We're all still going to a soccer forum website to talk about our team. Whether it's cynical, frustrated, perhaps obscene criticism and professed bitter hatred or "Yeah, go Real, they're awesome!" we're all hard core fans and can't be lumped into the fair weather category. Though sometimes I almost feel like copying the guys in the movie Major League who dress up in their home baseball team's stuff but then go to the game to cheer against them. They don't actually want them to lose, but they cheer for the other team so that they can have something to celebrate since their own team sucks so bad. It's a win-win situation, rather than always getting your hopes up for a home win that only happens twice a year. Of course, I still do have my hopes up every game, and I cheer for RSL, so I still haven't tipped the other way. But if Ellinger is still the coach next season, I think I might just become an every-team-but-Salt-Lake fan.

Well, I only watched it on TV, but... hard to imagine anyone watching that game at the stadium and saying they're never coming back. It was one of the better matches of the year (and yeah, I've said that about plenty of DC ties/losses).

    Thanks,
    Dave

Also posted in the news thread, from MLSNet:

Stewart May Be RSL's Key vs. DC

They note that his insertion would mean a backline of three second year players and a rookie. Ellinger says "If you are good enough, you are old enough," Ellinger said. "It's time for people to step up."

Yeah, it was a really exciting game in person, too. I think that the frustration stems from the deja vu of the Dallas game, which wasn't as exciting, and the defensive meltdown.

As for the two-year and rookie lineup, didn't Stewart just give DCU a hard time in the Chicago Fire tie on Saturday? He might have a pretty fresh memory about the team.

Unfortunately, he didn't even make the bench, though he almost certainly attended the game and walk through, etc., and may have prepared for DC in practice. Basically, the emergence of Dasan Robinson led to Stewart being the forgotten Fire defender.

Really? Well, uh, nevermind then. I guess that explains why the Fire traded him.

Yes - one of our forgotten men (RyJo) for one of theirs (Stewart). Hopefully this is one of those trades that ends up being good for both players and both teams.

I was trying to decide if my heart could take listening to this game (at least part of it). I have decided that we'll probably be down enough by halftime that I won't have to worry about us falling apart in stoppage time, so I should be ok.

I imagine Ellinger will double Wilson's yearly paycheck with his donation.

    shut up troll.

Your goal came on a missed offside call. Tell your moron defender to stay on his feet when Klein is standing on the touchline in the box...

... Then you can tell that to Sequiera - he did it for us last game (left his feet at a horrible position to resurrect a cross option for Marsh last game).

You had the ref with you the whole game - he didn't give us anything for free.

Please - he was your 12th man tonight.

Be glad he didn't call what should have been the first PK when Worthen got dragged down in the box by your defender on a corner. He didn't want to give RSL anything - he looked long and hard but in the end, he knows they have tape of the game, so he has to call them.

The only controversy was that your defenders tripped up guys in the dying minutes.

Hey, CRapid fan, go troll somewhere else.

You douche bags have to try to come and take a victory away from RSL just because you lost 4-1 to Dallas...

The soccer gods have taken games from us PLENTY of times (see the last 2 games before this as the most recent examples).

Show some class and get your smug ass off our boards and let us enjoy a victory for once.
