Roberto Cabana's heel kick playing for Cosmos.
Off the record: I will always remember this because after I saw that goal, we went to the State Track and Field meeting in Eugene Oregon, in Spring of 83 and I didn't qualify for the finals so me and a couple of guys run down hill into a soccer field and started kicking a soccer ball. One of the guys throw a ball for a Heading and I run too far too soon and as I saw, I still can see kind of in a slow motion, the ball going not too high I let myself dive and left my right heel I felt the contact of the ball when I look up the ball was bouncing, I never saw the play, the other guys said it was fantastic move, although my play wasn't a goal I never did it again. I always looked for the perfect combination, height, speed, timing of the ball and myself jumping for the heading looking to change direction in the air: never again. That Higuita's save in a game, that is something fun to watch, scoring a goal is the best goal ever. Kudos to Cabanas.

There was one goal Pele scored for Santos of Brazil that had to be recreated on computer for his biographical documentary because there is no film of it. He did three "sombreritos" in a row (i.e., popping the ball over his defender's head and running onto the ball), then volleyed the ball into the goal.

If you like Heel flicks, these are two great ones:

Roberto Mancini vs. Parma (this goal was voted one of the best in Serie A ever)

Does it really matter? That goal was pure genius as well as ADP's back heel against Dortmund in 1997.

    For some more Roby Baggio:

He scored some real beauties and for those newbies who think that Beckham is the best at curling the ball, watch how a true expert does it.

Well, it was genius, but is there no explanation?

Laurent Robert really scored some amazing goals and it was a good solo by Baggio but you can't be serious any of them are better than like R. Carlos' freekick vs. France 98 or his amazing shot from a dying angle at the backline. Or Giggs' or Nistelrooijs solos.

If I should pick an rather unknown goal I'd say:

He was a champ. The greatest bicycle kick scorer. Say no more.

Here's some great Jean-Pierre Papin goals:

They aren't contenders for the greatest goals ever but it is a great example quality finishing and he didn't score tap-ins like a Van Nistelrooy. He scored quality goals with sheer brilliance.

Gots to be Marco Van Basten for Holland during the Euros. That goal will be forever burned in my mind for its sheer audacity. The strike is wonderful but having the skill and nuts to try it is classic

It's without a doubt the greatest goal scored in European Championship but to call it the greatest ever? Possibly.

That was his third goal of the day. The first two were also pretty good.

I've never seen a better individual performance, and I'm not sure anyone else has either.

If there was one man who could score fantatic goals that man was Matt Le Tissier

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-b01xfi1yI

(second one would've been the perfect goal if he hadn't slightly scuffed the shot, but it's still one of the best goals I've ever seen)

until you see the Ibrahimovic goal from the far end, it just looks like an odd goal. then you see that he hit it off his toenail. genius.

same with Bergkamp against Argentina in WC '98. how he bumps the ball over the defender's leg. impossible.

It's certainly far from the best goal EVER, but I can just watch this one over and over.
