do you get the feeling he took this job b/c it was convienent and that a chance of coaching in Europe had dried up?
All I heard about with Bruce was how Europe was his dream -what happend to it?

About five minutes into the match with the Czechs, Europe turned into a nightmare :D

yeah, the decision not to start a left back against the czechs and then 4 minutes into the match a beautiful cross, from the left, leads to the first goal. i think that closed any doors that may have been open for him coaching in EUrope. But I think he's lucky to come back and get the RBNY job. It's a good job for him and it's good for MLS.

Bruce was naked in that dream. So when he showed up for the Tottenham Hotspur interview, he was buck naked the whole time.

He's still wondering why they never called him back.

It's a huge blow to his ego to be returning to MLS, but that $600K he's gonna be getting will help soothe his pain.

of course. all anyone was talking about was Bruce getting offers from European teams. his reputation did take a hit from this past world cup, however if he can raise the performance level of the team as well as change the culture of "well there's always next year" around here, then he maybe be able to get somewhat close to being as celebrated as he was going into the cup.

    Not really.

I'll pat myself on the back-when Mo took the job after Bradley was let go, I posted that Arena was going to be the coach. It made sense then-especially after the big press conference vis-a-vis Harrison-and it makes sense now.

I felt then that if Lalas was smart he would start making overtures to Arena about keeping the door open for NY, as I did not think he would ever get a European job to his liking.

So, unlike most people here, I thought this was no-brainer a year ago. If I remember what I wrote then (don't make me look the thread up :p ) I said it was the only real play for Metro. And in the end, it basically was.

    Ofcourse it was..

As an aside, why is he waiting till August 12th to take the reigns?

At the press conference, he said he hadn't taken a vacation in a while and that he wanted to build his staff as well. Guess he wants to have as many things in place as possible when he begins. Arena said his first practice would be Aug. 7 -- or sooner.

I think this had to be a big pressure operation from USSF, MLS and lastly RBNY. They need someone to straighten out the mess here for the sake of soccer's future in the US.

And it probably took several weeks for Bruce to accept this as a challenge instead of taking it as a degrading demotion.

With one foot in the playoffs and the other out, I would have hoped he would have jumped right on board.

No big deal though, plenty of time left to make it happen this season...

It looks like Ritchie Williams is taking care of that already.

I don't want to go crazy over just a few matches, but overall we are playing a bit better.

We'll be in the hunt come playoff time, where hopefully, we will be matched up against you guys.

Which is a good excuse to come down to RFK for a match.... I love hitting matches down there.
