I counter with literally dozens of my fellow co-workers that have come from a certain Columbus retailer over the last few years. And we've lost approx. ZERO people to them.

I call BS. Everyone I've known that has come from Columbus is happier here.

I'd be SHOCKED if he wasn't starting by the middle of August.

Probably because they just can't handle intelligent conversation.

    Yes, I'm kidding.

I guess this is what passes for comedy in Houston.

Nah, we're getting Socrates next. Then Hu-goal is coming back!

This is interesting news. Probably one of those things where if you get a chance to get somebody good, you go ahead and make the deal, and worry about the lineup later. I've really enjoyed Dario's work out there this year though.

    OK, here's my question:

How far away from being MLS ready is Burse? If he is developing into something, then maybe this signing is more for next year than this. Hear me out: if Burse is, say 2 years away, then he backs up Hilsop next season and assumes the job the next. If Hislop wants to keep playing, he either backs up the new keeper or signs with another team, as the West Ham site says this is an 18-month contract. This would allow FCD to dispurse either Sala or Cassar when Hislop gets over here next month. If Cassar is healthy, then I say trade the more valuable of Jeff and Dario.

    Just a theory....

I'm sure Buzz and the other reporters will have more detail about the conference call later, but the one thing that I heard was that we are keeping four keepers on the roster and that this is being done to have competition. Bear in mind that with Jeff's injuries, Dario hasn't had competition for some time. Colin likes competition for positions.

I also believe it should be up on the archive later today at some point.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is...

Shaka Hislop was West Ham's second goalie last year who only became the number one when Roy Carroll went down with injury.

Hislop knew when the Northern Ireland international came back, it was back to the bench.

And this is probably as much a publicity move for FC Dallas as much as anything. Every recognizable name a team has in MLS is a name needed to get people to show up.

Yeah right. Like anyone's gonna go to a game just because of Hislop.

Exactly. What kind of draw do you think he is?

This all makes sense to me now because the Argentine media is reporting that Sala is going back to play for Belgrano de Cordoba, which recently was promoted to the first division in Argentina.

Does Columbus have a left midfielder or a right back that we would want?

BTW, they've archived the conference call on fcdallas.net. Probably worth a listen.

in regards to the conference call, i really enjoyed the question about why they didn't go after a striker since they hadn't scored in a couple of games. CC just sat there gathered his thoughts and said with.....(listed off all strikers on team) i think we have enough firepower. after a short silence the reporter says, ok.

i thought it was funny. overall it was a pretty cool little conference call, 4 keepers on the roster? go for it.

That's a good number. This may be a slight reach, but I expect him to be the backup here next season and then compete to start in 08.
