I was shocked after learining the Djorkaeff lied to us. How in the world would you say that you need to take care of personal business in France and then be at a game in Germany?. At this stage of his life, he did not need to do such thing.
As opposed to going to watch Brazil? I don't think there is any question he went to Germany to watch France unless he was superimposed into the game footage.
How is it he "lied to us?" You think he and his brother are lying about their mothers' illness? And are you that geographically ignorant that you can't understand how you can attend to a family crisis in France but go see a match in Germany that night? Everyone's taking this far too seriously. Why should he return? The most "informed," sure, but doubtless also the most disloyal, disrespectful and unappreciative "supporters" in the nation. 4Winds' post above: best in the thread.
If soccer players played 225 games a year, I might agree with you, but at the very least you're expected to show up for 30 or so games a year. If you called in a sick day when on a thursday when there wasn't much going on at the office, that would be one thing. If you didn't show up on the first day of a trial, or when you were making a pitch to a big potential client, it's quite another. Djorkaeff is wrong, but the bigger joke is Red Bull and MLS. I really am sorry to say what a piece of crap this team and this league is in so many ways. IF Djorkaeff would rather be at the France game, why shouldn't the fans? I am so glad I gave up my season tix three years ago. What a joke.
The contempt towards Youri demonstrated by so many who don't support this team and/or don't attend matches at the Swamp is truly astounding. Sometimes during the course of a season a player needs to get away and clear his head. Not one poster to this thread has given any indication that they've a clue as to what is really going on. Its all a bunch of speculation - mostly from those all-too-eager to bash away at this club. We've seen the range, from "my girlfriend got fired for faking a sick day," to "this is proof MLS is a joke." What does this really prove? Any idiot can post any nonsense on here any time they like. All we know: 1) Youri left (the week MoJo was fired) for "personal reasons"; 2) Youri's brother claims their mother is sick in France; 3) Youri saw his former teammates that he won the World Cup with eight years ago defeat the Brasil squad that won four years ago in Germany; 4) Fans of other MLS sides and those who claim to support the Red Bulls jump to hasty conclusions and label Youri a "liar." Until Youri says/does something about his status with RBNY, we should all be patient.
First of all, what in God's name are you talking about? You seem live in this bitter little alternate universe where you hold grudges regarding other topics from the past, and like to attempt (note the italics) to draw parallels to totally unrelated issues that are presently being discussed. I thought we settled this awhile ago. When I moved out of my high rise in Manhattan, and out of state for a change of lifestyle, you somehow said I had failed to make it ,. This coming from someone who probably lives in shoebox in Brooklyn. (I have nothing against Brooklyn, but the old "dont throw stones when you live in a brick house" line rings a bell. You have no idea about me or what I have done in my life. I appreciate the obsession though, never knew I had such an impact. Again, drop it. Again, lets keep this on topic. Now If Youri's excuse is legit (mothers sickness) I have no problem with it. How else would you kill time? You couldnt be by her bedside 24 hours a day. Now if it it surfaces that he was full of sh!t, then THAT is a problem. Oh and by the way, What exactly have YOU accomplished besides proving yourself to be the local BigSoccer mule?
Just keeps looking worse: http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/sports/AP-SOC-WCup-Djorkaeff-Arrest.html?_r=1&oref=login
let's keep things in perspective -- this sounds like a minor technical matter professional athletes regularly get in a lot more trouble this blast from the past pops to mind and then there's . . . http://www.glennbeck.com/news/01122005.shtml
I agree - I am not saying the guy is going to be locked away for life. But first he shows up on TV w/o permission, then it comes out he was briefly arrested, maybe that side trip to Germany wasn't such a keen idea.
they were trying to pick him up for something that happened in 2001. now that's a dedicated police unit.
Tell me, how are Youri's actions that you list right here OK, but soccer fans who feel short changed by the franchise/league for just this sort of thing and have stopped going to the games are "astounding". If it's a serious league, it should be taken seriously by the players. I was in Italy in '94 right after the WC, and the fact that Romario was late to return to training camp with his team was a majopr ordeal, because all stakeholders in the league took the league seriously. It's not just Youri. It's the whole thing.
maybe Youri left saying I'll be back when you hire a qualified coach and general manager BTW don't you wonder . . . if Red Bull had purchased San Jose would they have still put Marc de Grandboissongazeuse in charge or would they just have gone with the Director of Field Marketing, West Region?
