Last night I was listening to the game while I was faling asleep, I would have stayed up but i have to be up at 5:20 am and I need my sleep. Anyway within the the first 52 seconds, thats right the first 52 seconds, Shep was asked by the other guy what he thought about the way the tema played so far, Shep said he liked the pressure that they put on LA and that they were playing well. Now I could undertand this question being asked After 15-20 minutes, but in the first 52 seconds? Man that sort of stuff bothers me I don't know about you guys.
You know, the EXACT same thing occurred to me when I heard it. But I've come to expect such things from him; Shep seemingly has his mind made up before the facts are in. I mean, every second goal by the RBs is "brilliant", according to him. Before RW's first game he predicted the RBs would rise to the occasion. No reason, no facts, just wanted to hear himself talk. Not that he doesn't have bursts of logic and clarity, just not enough of them. =NLK=
Well, yeah; it was a tad early to ask that Shep's OK by me, though. He's trying to cheerlead a little; he's something of a homer for RBNY, without shying away from being critical when warranted. I'll be glad to have JP back, though. Nothing against Steve C, really, but JP knows the game better and is easier on the ears IMHO! Better any of them than the likes of Marcelo Balboa
I watch the feed coming from all around the league and ive got to say that the msg guys (esp when its jp and shep) are by far the best around. also the pre-game show is class.
Agreed.. LA guys (BRetos and Miles I think) last night are god awful. Simply terrible. And the guys from Chicago aint much better. Interestingly, I like Shep doing the the WC games, but he isn't nearly as good doing MLS.
Oh dear god do they LA guys suck. I HATE BRETOS. Suck. Hate It took them literally five minutes before they described aone whit of action out on the field.
The first thing Shep says in answering any of the questions, be it by Dellacamera or Cangelousie (sp?) is always: "No question, J.P.!" "No question, Steve!" Just check. I think he was doing the same trick during World Cup also. All these guys are clowns: but Red Bulls is an unbeatable circus anyway.
One thing about Shep......notice how now that Alexi is gone he's thrown in a few potshots towards him, however, during his short tenure here he never had a negative thing to say about him? It's easy to criticize someone who is now on the other side of the coast.
Basically that it looked like crap, that if you put cows on it they would walk away rather than eat the grass. Beautiful facility but a pitch in poor condition, they should be careful booking concerts, etc. if it's going to do so much damage to what the stadium is ostensibly for ("soccer-specific" GOD I hate that phrase!).
Amen to that! Balboa is the absolute worst. At least he's not calling the France-Portugal match right now. Shep's tops in my book. Was it Paul Gardner who used to do Soccer Made in Germany? Seamus Malin was always pretty good.
i dont know if this is full-time, but joe is the voice of madison square garden, at least for rangers games
Soccer Made in Germany commentator: Toby Charles How about Mario Machado? Anyone remember him doing the games from England when the the programs were an hour long? Seamus Malin and Jim Karvalis did the Cosmos games. Quiet night at the hotel...sorry.
"Shut up Seamus!!!!!!! SHUT UP SEAMUS!!!!!!!!!!!" some angry Metrofan watching the USA-Honduras (Clint Mathis Memorial)game at Nathan Hales. (not me for once)
Of the multitude of things that people can complain about regarding this team, the MSG coverage is really, really far down the list. I'd take J.P. over any PBP announcer in the country. Shep's got his eccentricities and catchphrases but he knows the game and he knows when to provide color. Cangelosi is great as the pre-game warm-up guy -- not a fabulous game-caller but still better than, say, DOB. Aside: According to yesterday's Wall St Journal SUM lobbied heavily for J.P. to be the #1 commentator for the WC, but Disney had final control over on-air talent and selected DOB.
