Being in last place, I'm sure that most RB fans would disagree. This isn't Christian Gomez missing a game to watch Argentina. For NY, half the season is done, and they are falling behind. This is a big deal.

Plus, seeing how he's like 49 years old, he could probably use a midseason break.

The problem is how this is handled by the team when he returns. That franchise is already a mess and having their star player return from a two week holiday while the rest of the guys have been putting in their work is plenty enough catalyst to cause more problems.

Hopefully they (the team, not the management) "punish" him somehow. Perhaps a funny haircut or something. A little bit of hazing always works.:)

That's exactly it. He's getting money (probably one of the wealthier contracts too), and some fans care to see him play. I get pissed off when I go to an MLS game and players are missing for friendlies...

Hopefully, MLS will take a break next WC so this sh!t isn't ever an issue again.

And if Red Bull knowingly let him go to see this match, then they have themselves to blame and NOT Djorkaeff.

I'm willing to bet LOTS of money that Red Bull excused him to go see this match.

You're right, it's not. Because none of the members of Argentina's team or staff would have any idea who he is.

Then come out and say it. Not this "personal reasons", "family illness" bull shit. It makes Red Bull and Youri look bush league.

Maybe Youri was sent there by the Red Bulls as poly in hopes that he can talk to some of his good old boys in coming back with him to NY? Like for example, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Vieira, Thuram, and if he can't talk any of them to coming back, well then why not trying to get Zidane? I'm sure that would be worth missing a few matches.

It's not his fault MLS plays through the world cup.

The first stage of building respect would be to suspend Youri for the rest of the season, and make him sue for his paycheck.

This totally unprofessional act- taken straight from the Lothar Matteus school of late-career professional soccer deserves full penalty.

If the Red Bulls don't do it, MLS should.

The Red Bulls may be poor on the field, but that's not being unprofessional. That just means you aren't good enough. What Youri did is totally unprofessional and he should be gone as a result.

As well, any older European pro who signs with MLS should be given the riot act beforehand- and these examples listed- so that this crap never happens again.

I'm not embarrased for Red Bulls or MLS UNLESS they don't throw the book at him...."Because HE'S Youri"..

If this is about French players wanting to honor possibly the greatest Frenchman ever to play, I'm cool with it. Plus, it this means that you get a rested and happy Djorkaeff, then it works out well for the Red Bulls.

It's not the money. It's your word as a man when you sign a contract to play. Obviously his word doesn't mean shit.

Note to self: Next time Youri takes a leave of absence, be sure to bet big on France.

What a slap to the face of MLS. Even John Harkes was saying not too cool of Djorkaeff to fake personal leave and be at the game.No respect for the league or for the RB.

A slap in the face! MLS LESS important than the World Cup quarterfinals!? Burn him at the stake.

We also don't know that it wasn't in his contract that he could leave if a game like this were happening.

I wonder if maybe he has an injury that would cause him to miss a few games and the team approved of this trip. Probably not but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until the team annoucnes otherwise.
