I thought he was going back to Dutch-land after this...something about being homesick or wanting to see his wife and kids.

    Maybe an interim thing?

For a guy who coached a few Dutch teams and assistant coach positions, a shot at heading a national side that regularly makes it to WC is a chance of a lifetime! He really knows Korean football but I don't know his leadership skills or how he is in a mangerial position. I wish him the best though. Hopefully this will be a great move for both Pim and Korea.

Pim just won the coaching lottery. To take control of our national team after two unforgetable stints as a coach in Japan and the Netherlands Antilles...talk about rolling the dice by the KFA.

probably not. this was a rather quick desicion by the KFA. We will know soon enough if he is suitable for the job. by end of asian cup people can start judging him but for now he has my full support and i beleive that he can do a fantastic job.

Pim did well with hiddink to help us reach the semi's during 2002, Advocaat tried to pull off a hiddink but didnt happen, he did well though, im just hoping Pim can help get us good results. goodluck to Pim as the head coach.

I believe this was a pretty good decision because there are more positives than negatives

    1. The KNT would have wasted a lot of time finding a suitable foreign candidate and therefore missing out crucial time to prepare for the upcoming AC and Asian games and still not guarantee sucess with a new coach.
    2. Pim is the only foreigner out there that is most aware of our football.
    3. He has a perfect chance to grow and continue to improve our team right after this year's world cup and continue develop the KNT until the 2010 wc. Basically start where Dick and Hiddink left off.
    4. He has worked with Korea under Hiddink and Advocaat with two world cup under his belt with Korea.
    5. He is well aware of WHAT must be done for KNT to be competitive in world football.

I don't like it but with the team in it's current state it might not be that bad of a move to have someone in house to transition from the Vodka/Goldmember/Portugese Sausage slate of foreign mercenery coaches.

If the players can respond to him then great. I'm more worried about his lack of first class coaching pedigree. Coaching Kyoto Purple Sanga and the Netherlands Antilles isn't exactly Manchester United and Brasil.

I wonder what's gonna happen to Afshin Ghotbi...did he do anything substantial for 2006 compared to his job under Hiddink in 2002 ?

It's all working out fine for Korea. Pim deserves to be the next head coach as he knows inside-out of all the Korean players and can probably sort out our shit defense with him being defender himself when he was a player. He can also probably choose the kind of formation that suits us and communicating with the players will be no problem. But I still find him lacking experience as he mostly was an assistant coach during his career and when he was a coach, he wasn't very successful. I was hoping for South American coach for once to see how it suits us but oh well...

I believe though that with right man (assistant coach) next to him, he will do heck of a job!

Apparently the KFA has agreed a initial "two year" contract given the fact he does well with the AC 2007, Asian Games, and the 2008 Olympics. After that both parties will agree for Pim to coach the WC 2010. I think this was a good prudent approach and a professional one as well. It's not always good to make an intial 4 to 5 years contract beforehand, as ANYTHING can happen.

Go read it here... Pretty interesting stuff

yes, 2 years is quite a prudent choice - Pim knows the NT back to front, and 2 years should be enough to gauge if his tactical abilities are sufficient to take the NT to the 2010 WC. I also hope he gets a decent set of coaching staff as well.

I'm not totally sold on his credibility as a head coach with clubs in Japan and Europe. Having said that, I feel he deserves a shot at KNT to prove himself what he can do with a team he's been involved with and part of the success. He's also probably most realistic and logical choise we have at this point. I hope he gets two years no matter what happens in AG and AC.
