Since there was no offside, he really wasn't overruling anything.

    Thx,

    Jay!

nothing in your analysis is reasonable, the turkish league is stronger than MLS, and all but the top 5 leagues in Europe. (Spain, England, Italy, Germany, France) And, AND you cannot judge the quality of the team solely on their finishes in a cup tournament. the 94 & 98 teams were nowhere near as tactically or technically prepared or proficient as the players playing today are capable of being.

If anything as far as young players go, it shows how much their technique if not tactics are improving. This will probably earn Dempsy and Convey looks from other clubs. Everyone else was afraid to take the heat of being known. (We need to follow the African model or the Asian model of bringing in someone with superior understanding of tactics and fitness.)

Okay, lets think about this for a minute. Every time we gained the momentum in a game, a ref's questionable call robbed us of it within 5 minutes.

Game 1 - We never had any momentum.
Game 2 - We get the gift from Italy and then Mastro gets a RC a few minutes later.
Game 3 - We equalise and then Gooch gets a bad penalty called on him.

I know we played poorly, but the refs hurt as well.

Have you watched many DC games? Adu's a starter, and one of their best offensive players. I expect his national team callups to start right away.

Pretty much sums up my feelings. We didnt play well, Arena had a terrible tournament in terms of coaching and lineup and formation decisions, a lot of our most important players had miserable tournaments, Donovan most signifigantly and of course the refs absolutely jobbed us in 2 of the 3 games. Its impossible to advance if you're not playing well AND the refs are either complete morons, or rigging the games. I doubt the latter, I just think we got two moron refs, whatever reputation Merk had, he lost it with that idiotic call on Gooch.

It's just highly unlikely for any team. Again, I appreciate how we need to examine our many mistakes, but I feel we were totally screwed.

Where's the desire here? You can choose one way or the other. What did you really expect here? There are many footballing countries that will have to look at themselves after this tournament. USA is no exception.

    Onwards and upwards.

Ghana-Brazil... hmmm, reminds me of Nigeria-Brazil in 98.

Anyway, Arena dropped the ball on this entire World Cup. One f ucking forward when all we've ever seen has been two up top? THat was the beginning of the end.

I agree that there was no offside; but it was really close. If Merk had been biased, he would have blown the whistle.

OK, he had that role last year and I haven't seen any DC games yet this season. Apologies. But eventually MLS is going to get in the way of his development.

I agree with whomever said that Freddy should go to AJAX. We need to get more players into the Dutch league so they can learn to play a little offense. In my opinion why was everyone saying we had a chance to advance. Czech has 5 players better then anyone on our team, Italy has a better player at every position, and even Ghana had 1 or 2 players better then anyone on our team. More players need to go over to Europe to develop at a younger age because the development in the US is terrible.

Yeah, you're exactly right. The U.S. should defintely keep up with the gameplan, because obviously our players are thriving in Italy and Germany. Hey, maybe the U.S. will score two goals in 2010!!!!!!!!!

WRONG...were was the solid attacking? Our attack was pathetic at best.

Blame the refs? Please...that can't be our complaint. Sure, there were bad calls, but teams that are worth anything fight to overcome that. You can't blame the refs for Beasley playing like crap the entire cup. One ball won, and a good pass...that's it.

You want to find fault....Start with Arena and his decisions. You can't tell me that O'Brien wasn't fit enough to play 60 minutes, and that Olsen adding anything to the offense. You can't tell me that Lewis was just taken out after putting in 2 very dangerous chances, and that could be considered a good decision. You can't tell me it was a good move to keep McBride in during the Italy match when he was clearly out of gas, we had Italy against the ropes, and that Johnson's speed wouldn't have pissed off the Italian defense. And one forward the entire World Cup? Nice call Bruce you retard....worked out well in the Czech match didn't it? Way to stick to it you bonehead!

Donovan...where the hell were you? Beasley...never again. Olsen....please don't except any further invitations to US National Team camps.

Sorry, but you can't blame the refs despite some questionable calls. It starts at the top, and then goes down to some of the "veterans" (if you want to call them that) who were "supposed" to be the ones carrying us through to the next round, and somehow failed to realize they were playing on the world stage.

Too conservative. Too much trust in experience. Not enough trust in youth. Who said, "it's a young mans game"?

I'd like to see Donovan, Dempsey, and Conrad go to Europe, but stop pretending, this team was mostly European and it didn't make a difference. Give me a Dempsey over 10 Reyna's any day.

Good job by the Ghanaian team. They were better today. I wish I could say that without feeling the need to add the caveat that they dove too much.

A 4-5-1 when u have to score goals is the WORST freaking decision I have ever seen!!!!!!!! The game was over before it started. DeMarcus as Defensive Midfielder?????? guess we were really scared of their mids streaking downfield on us, oh that never happened did it. STUPID Tactic #2. McBride lone striker all tournament = 0 goals STUPID Tactic #3.

    Landon giving us nothing in 3 games = Bad adjustment; Playing for the tie vs Italy instead of going for the win late = Bad adjustment; Sitting on a sub vs Italy = bad decision;

What did the Manager do right? Arena must go!

Make sure we remind this douche every time he touches a ball in MLS. I know I'll be there to let him know he let me down, personally.

    Thx,

McBride, Reyna, Pope, Lewis, thank you for your service and best of luck in your future endeavors.

Donovan, you're a national disgrace. The only thing more disappointing than your play this tournament is the fact that LA already played in New England and I can't boo you in person any time soon.

Arena, you're fired, go rot away forever. This tournament you epitomized the definition of insanity.

    Proud of Dempsey.
