not sure we could have advanced so long as the refs were as bad as they were. even with a good coach, it seems that no team will win unless the refs decide to screw them over less than the other side.
Dear USA, You're never going to become a soccer force while eternally relying on a conservative defense-first mindset. Please stop trying.
Is there anyone in the US who can finish? A true striker? Someone the other team can be afraid of? I like McBride and Donovan and Johnson, but they don't put the fear of God in me, much less anyone else.
Players I don't need to see on NT again: Donovan, Pope, Beasley (at least until he shows something for PSV), Reyna. Arena's contract is up, and it won't be renewed. He won't be "fired".
I don't have a problem losing to Ghana. They have quality players at their disposal. Yet, I do question the consistecy on the non-call on goal one and the phantom foul for the pk.
Well, that sucked. So how does the team go forward? 1. Arena will be fired. Whether today, tomorrow, or next week, he's done. He coached like a little girl, and his team followed. Off to the Galaxy with you. 2. We find a European coach. US talent on the coaching level has run out, and we need someone to go to the next level. I'm not smart enough to know who, but someone's out there. 3. Either Donovan goes back to Europe for the next four years, or he doesn't even get a tryout in 2010. He was a non-factor. 4. Either Beasley gets off of the rag, or he doesn't even get a tryout in 2010. He was less than worthless. 5. Most importantly, every single US player should get booed out of the stadium in their first game back on US soil, whether in MLS or otherwise. This year has marked a change in US soccer. Before, they were a distraction. People were happy if they did well, but otherwise they didn't care. Now, they're an embarassment. They were expected to do something, and they did nothing. The US soccer fans need to let them know that their performance was completely unacceptable, and it will not be excused so quickly. I don't give a crap what shirt they're wearing, either. If they come out for your team, boo the crap out of them. Welcome home, boys. You suck. And, BTW, if anyone has one of those "Don't Tread On Me" shirts, burn them before you accidentally wear one and become a laughingstock.
That's bull. They are still our team and I'm going to support those guys. Maybe they didn't pull it off, but lets all take a deep breath. Calm down. Wait a day or two for perspective and then figure out how to make the national side better.
Every single time the US got a turnover and had a chance to counter, a Ghanian player fell down and faked an injury. The ref never once punished this. It was obviously their game plan and it worked to perfection. Even on the goal, they tried it, but we were in too advanced a position for it help. Cynical tactics like that are why this sport has trouble catching on in this country.
Stop with the IF and what could of been the main thing here is we lost a game we HAD TO WIN. Bruce did a bad job. Landon may have disapeared again but I blame that on the system (bruce) and well Beasley's attitude through out the tournament was rather poor if not right down bad.
On the bright side, it will be nice to have some of these guys back in MLS lineu-ups. I can't believe Dempsey, a WC rookie, scored the only goal for the US in this entire tournament.
Beg to differ, Ghana did nothing wrong and did nothing that most other teams do when ahead. Good job Ghana, I'm happy for them. We didn't deserve the penalty kick and we certainly didn'tdeserve to advance. Bruce is complete junk, I mean if he was here with me now, I'd punch him in the lips until his teeth fall out. That SOB is a fockhead. I hate his stinkin' guts now.
