For those of us arriving for the USA-GHA match 2-3 hours prior, where should U.S. fans get together? I guess the meeting place should be either next to the main train station, the stadium or somewhere in between? Any good ideas?
true, but they are right next door to the stadium. You can even wander up and stand on hitler's little podium if you like. On the other hand, very near the main station, just through the city gate, there's an Irish bar on the left which tended to have a few Americans in when I was there last year.
How about here? Close to the HBF, so we'll be ready to climb on the S2 train to the Frankenstadion. http://www.barfuesser-nuernberg.de/ Here's the blurb from Euro beer guide: http://www.xs4all.nl/~patto1ro/nurnpubs.htm
I'm still waiting to see what Sam's Army has planned but they haven't released anything. I was thinking of this restaurant and after google mapping it, it is quite close to the trains. My family is driving us to the game so were thinking it will be much easier to drop us off downtown have some lunch and then head over by train. See ya there Cornballer..fellow Bay Area resident
Re: Nuremberg - Post-game? I need to get from the game in Nuremburg to Frankfurt/Hahn Airport for a RyanAir flight that departs at 11:15pm. If I can reasonably expect the game to end around 6-630pm, that leaves me around 4 hours to safely nab my flight. The trains seem either to depart too soon or arrive too late. It'd be really great if someone knew of a bus or was heading to Frankfurt after the game themselves. ...any suggestions? Thanks
barfusser sounds good...also saw on yig , finnegans an irish? pub by the station the barfussen people e-mailed me back an english menu...I really think this is the game to put us through, as the bruce said hoping for a point first 2 matches and a win ...for 5 points...saw bruce on fsc, arena world? i guess it was filmed a week before send offs..
Ok so I checked the train schedule from Barfusser on the 22nd. Looks like a great plan really. 10 minute walk from the restaurant to the train station, a four minute train ride and another 10 minute jaunt to the Stadium (which will probably take me about TWO!!!). Looks like Barfusser is a traditional beer hall with long tables and such. I'm sure we can carve out a space. Everyone's flags should be a dead giveaway. I'll try to get there early. So, Barfusser at 11am on GameDay. We'll head for the train around 13:00. Who's with me?
Just out of curiousity how many people here have actually met each other before? I have only been to two US games, at RFK against Honduras for the 2002 cup and against England in Chicago last year. My wife and I are staying in Augsburg then heading up for the game. Would be nice to meet up with some yanks though to get the atmosphere going.
I haven't met anybody before but I sure its safe to assume that if they are a US fan, they're already a good friend of mine.
Re: Nuremberg - Post-game? Look into flying. I believe they have a decent sized airport in Nuremberg, and short flights in Europe can be quite cheap. Whether you'll actually find an open flight that fits you is another question, but it's worth a look. Otherwise maybe rent a car if that is possible.
I don't get to many qualifiers, so not sure that I've met anyone here. But probably one or two from Korea? Aside: did you know that the town you're staying in was where they did the exterior shots for the original "Willy Wonka" movie? See you all at the Bar-Fuesser!
I will try and talk my wife into going there too, not sure how excited she would be though to be hanging out with a whole bunch of drunk yanks before and during the game though! (she's from england)
also see here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=350064&page=2 post 19-21 mentions some places too, including the place where cjcourtney sez is the traditional us expat gathering place. yanks-abroad is still trying to get a y-a red-white-and-brew going for usa v ghana, but i see nothing on their site yet. maybe on friday. i think you'll see a lot of stars and stripes wandering about on gameday!
good question...some have formed lifelong friendships..but in our case just havin a brew with fellow supporters at nats games(foxboro, dallas, columbus, mexico city, houston) i assume most of the posters are mls fans, hence a little deeper..team rivalries and tailgates etc..the nats have a pretty sizable following aroung the usa with sam's army, with different brigades in mostly mls cities, who on game day host the fans from around, the country trying to secure favorable hotel rates to tailgating cookouts at stadium...all in all a great group of people.we have no complaints, but at times the "army" is a bit aloof...but at the end of the day we are one in our love of futball and the nats and of course hating mexico(our biggest competitor) ...er...on the field..
well yanks-abroad is gong to have a meeting at o'shea's irish pub in nurnberg. I kind of like the look of this barfusser place though. Does everybody have a solid place where we really are going to meet? I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I fly out on the 17th and when I leave i won't have the internet, so will need to have a place decided on. Just wondering.
I'm up for any of those places. I'll probably check out the Y-A party. I have tickets to the Argentina/Holland game the night before so we're taking the red-eye train to Nuremberg, arriving around 4am. A short nap in the park, a couple of Red Bulls, and I'll start looking for y'all.
Well, i'm not setting up anything offical by any means, but I'm still going to Barfusser. I don't want to go to an Irish pub in Germany, I want to go to a German Beer Hall. If you are a BigSoccer member, look for a 6'5" 30-ish guy with another 6-3 60-ish guy wearing US stuff. Granted..that may describe quite a few people, but I'm sure it will be easy to find the English speakers.
